Celtica Wellness Sanctuary

Over halfway through my trip to the homeland. Still not ready to come back, but also cannot wait.

The sanctuary holds itself when I am not there. That is the thing about building something with intention - it does not need you every minute.

Some of what I love most about coming home is the hunting. Wandering into small shops, market stalls, places that smell like beeswax, wool and Welsh cakes. Looking for things that don't just decorate a space, but say something about it.

This trip, I've been collecting with Celtica in mind. Not souvenirs, but pieces that belong on this side of the Atlantic too. Things with texture, weight, a bit of history in them. The kind of objects that make a room feel grounded rather than staged.

I won't give it all away yet, but a few things are coming home with me, and they'll be finding their way into the sanctuary soon.

📍 Wales, treasure hunting

This is Tŵr Mawr. The lighthouse on Ynys Llanddwyn, right at the southwest tip of Anglesey. If it looks familiar, it's because it's the drone footage on the Celtica website.

Long before there was a sanctuary, back when Celtica was still just my own private practice with a website and an idea, I was searching for an image that captured exactly how I wanted the space to feel. Not how it should look, but how it should feel, and I found it here.

Getting to the lighthouse itself is a 45-minute walk from the forest car park, through the trees, then out along a stretch of coastline that reveals one hidden beach after another. A path that's made of seashells, no crowds, no noise, just the sea.

There's history here too, beyond the walk itself. The island takes its name, Llanddwyn, from Santes Dwynwen, a 5th-century Welsh princess who came here after a broken love affair to live a quiet, devoted life by the sea. She's remembered now as the Welsh patron saint of lovers, our own version of St. Valentine, and the ruins of the church she built are still standing further along the island. There's something fitting about that. A place people have come to for centuries to heal, to be still, to start again. Long before I ever walked this path myself.

I don't think I can fully explain what it feels like to stand there. Calm doesn't quite cover it, It's closer to arriving somewhere you've been imagining for years and finding it's better than you hoped.

This is the feeling I've spent years trying to bottle and bring back to San Francisco. It's why Celtica looks and feels the way it does. Every session, every room, every small design choice is an attempt to hand a piece of this back to someone who may never get to walk this path themselves.

📍 Ynys Llanddwyn, Anglesey

You forget, and then you remember. The green here is different...

Not greener, exactly. It has weather in it, history in it. Although peaceful, it doesn't ever sit still - it moves with the wind off the water, and somehow that gentle movement is what makes it feel like home.

This is the landscape Celtica was built to echo. The quiet permission to... simply just be, for a minute.

📍 First hours in Wales

I built Celtica because I missed something I couldn't quite name.

Turns out it's this: the particular quality of light on the Severn Bridge as it opens up away from England into Wales. The quiet hush of the countryside that turns from flat to hilly as soon as you cross the border. And more, lots more.

Every summer I make this trip - Heathrow, then west, then further west still, until the roads narrow and the hills start doing that thing where they roll instead of rise.

It's not a holiday exactly. It's more like recalibration. A reminder of the coast that gave Celtica its name long before it had a name at all.
