Supreme Court Upholds Bans on Transgender Girls in Women's School Sports
In a 6-3 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that West Virginia and Idaho laws barring transgender girls from competing on girls' and women's school sports teams do not violate Title IX or the Equal Protection Clause.
Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote the majority opinion, joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, and Barrett. The three liberal justices dissented in part but agreed states can use biological s*x for eligibility.
The ruling protects s*x-based categories in school athletics.
