Kehlani Strong

Day 15 - Today has been a really good day! We saw the doctor first thing this morning, going to do a CT scan of her brain on Monday and as long as it looks good (no bleeding or swelling) we can go home. We will be making trips back to cooks 3 times a week. The drive will stink but hey at least we will be home for a bit before her next chemo round.

Then we hung out with Kam Carrier and Andrea Nixon before they both had to leave. Homegirl got a really good nap in.. now she’s playing her little heart out.

Platelets and Hemoglobin went down but not to the point of needing a transfusion.

ANC is up again which is nice. We need her up another 600 points though… baby steps.

Day 15- of this new unwanted adventure!
Woke up to:
- her Hemglobin dropping another number. (9.7 to 8.7 - we transfuse at 8 ).
- her platelets moving up (doesn’t count though.. she had a transfusion).
- her ANC went up though!! Big win! 90 to 150

Overall she’s had a great day. She slept in, woke up in a really great mood and is now napping.
She has played so much, got her nails done by her sissy, and ate half a sausage patty.. that may not seem like a big deal.. but she hasn’t ate that much in days!

Everything is watch and wait!! If you are able, there is a co****le tournament this weekend in Weatherford that has spots open as well!

I may be a little distant today (catching up on sleep). Kehlani had a reaction to platelets. Thank God, she already had Benadryl, and didn’t start reacting until she was almost finished. Her little lips swelled up, hives and itchy. Thankfully our night team was made up of our OG team. A bit of Atarax, and about 30 min… she’s sound asleep. Now my turn.

Day 12, Today was a really good day. Her antibiotic was changed from IV to Oral… which means a full 12 hours of no IV. She spent quite a bit of time in the playroom, even got to spend time with our friend Lennon (who is having scans tomorrow…big prayers). Then chasing Amy, one of our fav nurses (now manager … big congrats to her on that).

She still isn’t eating. Instead of stressing about that… we met with nutrition and she’ll just be getting pediasure shakes 3 times a day. She wanted to eat but her taste buds are all out of whack again. Her counts are better (I saw better but they are still low… just slowly going up… baby steps). We may even get to go home end of the week/early next week.

She needs to have her counts stay at Platelets 75 (without transfusion) and ANC of 750 or better to be able to move to the next round of chemo.

Day 11 -
She had an even better day that yesterday. Today she spent most of her time outside of her room. She even went outside to get some air. Spent a lot of the day in the playroom. We’ve been really lucky that we havent ran into a lot of kids in the play room.. which means no mask for her. Counts look okay blood and platelets were up (obviously because she had an infusion Saturday morning). ANC dropped again praying it starts coming up soon. She even asked for food (which is a big deal).

Day 10 (yesterday) - was such a great day. Minus the early Morning fiasco! I was so mad that my post was just a hot mess. So let me update lol.

Kehlani has it in her chart that she is allergic to blood and platelets. For blood she gets a high fever… that means Tylenol and Benadryl. For platelets (it only said itching which isn’t true at all). She not only itches, she gets hives and her eye swells. With that we do Benadryl!! For whatever reason they decided not to premed and I completely lost my s**t. Here’s why:

11 DAYS AGO…. I was told if we didn’t start treatment my baby had 3 weeks to a month to live!!!! We are at the halfway mark almost. That fear doesn’t go away just because we started treatment. There is always a chance that this treatment isn’t working. So when she’s crying in her sleep.. asking me to come here (when she is literally curled up on me)… it’s scary as hell.. because you don’t know what’s going on. Is she taking a turn for the worst.. or is it something else. I just happened to look up and see a platelet bag running.. and immediately was like… okay this is probably what it is… and that’s when I was like man maybe the Benadryl isn’t working… so we reported it..I made signs… I may have gone a little overboard with the signs.. but atleast now there is no question!

She had more energy as the day went on. We had visitors in and out all day and that was nice for her. She played her little heart out . She slept so well last night!

Going to be a long day. She needed platelets and blood Both which she has an allergic reaction to. Gotta love when nurses don’t communicate! Kehlani’s chart says she get itchy with platelets… guess that means we don’t premed because I mean being itchy isn’t a big deal right? I don’t mind being itchy for hours… being uncomfortable and can’t sleep well. 🙄 However, it was somehow removed that she gets hives and swells. So our night nurses (plural) didn’t even bother to check and wake me up.. decided against premed (Benadryl)…. Now look who has a beautiful swollen eye… I’ll get a better picture when she’s awake. Thank God for day shift!!! Blood has started.. she has Benadryl and Tylenol for this one. Now she sleeps. I’m awake and annoyed.

Today is one of the days we have been waiting for. Her stem cells have been infused… our room smells like an ass ton of cream corn, and now we patiently wait for them to do their thing. I pray this works so that we can move forward with treatment. We had the discussion today that if we are able to move forward with treatment, we will either be putting in a double port or putting in a second port on the opposite side of where hers is now. This will be so she doesn’t have to get an IV in her hand every time she has treatment.
Before bed she did get a little energy which was nice. But now she sleeps as her body is working on recovering.

Stem cells have officially been infused. Now we pray for them to do their job. We have an amazing team today.

Also, you know you have an amazing nurse when she creates an IV bag for the baby! Especially when she made it Wicked Magic Dust!
