🌿🪻 Every balm has a beginning & every ingredient has a story.
Before there's a tin on the shelf, there's a garden filled with herbs, flowers, and busy pollinators. Today's job in the garden is deadheading lavender—but I'm not throwing those flowers away. I save them to create lavender-infused oil that becomes an ingredient in some of the handcrafted products at Bees & Balm.

🐝 Did you know honey bees "beard" to keep the hive cool?

On warm summer evenings, thousands of worker bees gather outside the hive to reduce the temperature inside. It's one of the amazing ways a colony works together to protect the brood.

Every jar of beeswax we use starts with healthy, hardworking bees like these. ❤️🐝

One of my favorite things about growing my own ingredients is that the garden is always full of surprises—even the ones I didn't plant.

🌿 From garden to balm.

Most people have these three herbs sitting in their kitchen right now and have no idea how traditionally valued they are.

🌿 Oregano
🌿 Thyme
🌿 Rosemary

Combined with raw honey and apple cider vinegar, they create an oxymel—one of the oldest herbal preparations still used today.

An oxymel is a simple blend of honey, vinegar, and herbs that has been treasured by herbalists for generations. The honey adds sweetness, the vinegar helps extract beneficial plant compounds, and the herbs bring their own unique properties to the blend.

This oregano, thyme, and rosemary oxymel is one of my favorites because it's simple, affordable, and made from ingredients many people already have at home.

🍯 Oregano, Thyme & Rosemary Oxymel

• 2 tbsp dried oregano
• 2 tbsp dried thyme
• 2 tbsp dried rosemary
• 1 cup raw honey
• 1 cup raw apple cider vinegar

Combine ingredients in a glass jar. Store in a cool, dark place for 2–4 weeks, shaking occasionally. Strain and refrigerate.

Enjoy 1 tablespoon on its own or stirred into warm water.

Sometimes the oldest preparations are also the simplest.

Some of the calendula you see in this video was grown in my own garden.

The beeswax comes from hives in my backyard.

Many of the herbs are carefully selected and harvested with intention.

Then every batch is handcrafted, poured, labeled, and packaged by hand.

In a world where so many things are mass-produced, I still believe there's value in knowing where things come from.
