Styling between South Africa and Switzerland - Meet Julz! ✨

💫 Most people will know you as a make-up artist represented by Nixon Make-Up, what don’t they know?

Something most people don’t know about me is that I’ve been living in Switzerland for many years. I am an entrepreneur and have a couple of other small businesses alongside my career as an artist. Styling is one of them, and it’s grown since living in Europe, from wardrobe styling to home styling.
I was a professional dancer and have the best memories from that part of my career. Dance has always been a huge part of my life and has definitely been a compass that’s led me to important people. It was actually through dancing that I met Lindsay over 13 years ago! Being made up by the Queen Bee herself eventually led to me joining the Nixon team.

💫 What moments in your work make you feel the most honoured?

Seeing my work published. There is a proud feeling that comes with seeing your work in an advert. Another part of this job that truly honours me is getting a bride ready. Being booked to be part of this important day is always deeply special and exciting to me.

💫 Tell us about your family and how they have shaped you:

Being born fourth into a supportive, down to earth family has shaped me in many ways. I would say the highlight being their christian values and constantly helping people. My parents have shown me what hard work can get you. This has grounded me and taught me a lot, especially not to take myself too seriously. Today I am a wife to a wonderfully supportive man who is there for me while I build my career as well as being a Mum to our little people, Benji and Victoria. Life is busy but lucky to be able to mix the kid chaos with my creative world.

💫 What nourishes your soul outside of make-up?

Being with my family and friends. My faith. Drinking tea. Laughing. Dancing. Watching musicals. I love travelling and being in the places that make me happy. Surrounding myself with people who bring great vibes and values into my life.

💫 What’s your beauty philosophy?

Less is more. It doesn’t always have to be full glam when you get your makeup done. Makeup is a tool, one that should make someone feel confident, enhance their natural beauty, and help them feel like themselves, only levelled up.
Look after your skin. Drink more water. Do things that make you happy. Happy people are always the most beautiful.

💫 What drives your passion?

Seeing the joy on someone’s face when they look and feel beautiful after getting them ready. That never gets old. Every job brings its own excitement. Being part of so many creative parts of this industry. Working in fashion. The buzz of a photoshoot. Travelling to incredible places. Making up models from all corners of the world. Meeting people.

💫 What are you most proud of?

I have been in this industry for over 18 years (time flies!) I am proud of the career I have built. When I studied to become a makeup artist and stylist it wasn’t the original plan, I never realised that later it would become my passion and lead me to study further and eventually become my business. I have loved every moment of being part of this industry, and I am proud of the success I have had.
