Father’s Day Reflection | The Man Behind the Mask
As we celebrate Father’s Day today, we’re reflecting on yesterday’s Man Behind the Mask session for men’s mental health held on 20th June 2026 at Levy Mwanawasa University, in collaboration with the Biomedical Students Association of Zambia.
This session was hosted under Ability Flare 101- Edu Flare Foundation’s program under the Global Platform Action Aid Zambia.
We ran 4 sessions with over 40 young people mostly young men, with 6 ladies joining the conversation. Each session tackled a different mask men wear:
1. Lovers and Relationship Mask– facilitated by Mr. Boaz Chungu
2. Provider Mask – facilitated by Ms. Kachusha and Mr. Zuke
3. Invisible Mask– facilitated by Ms. Mutali
4. Leadership Mask– facilitated by Mr. Mwenya and Mr. Daniel Banda
In the first session, participants wrote letters never sent to lovers, friends, and especially to their fathers. It was raw, honest, and a powerful step toward unmasking what many carry in silence.
This is what mental health work looks like: creating safe spaces for men to speak, be heard, and heal.
Today, as we honor fathers and father figures, let’s also honor the courage it takes to unmask. To the men who spoke up yesterday: we see you. Your mental health matters.
Let us never send letters we’re afraid to speak.

Society will always criticize a woman for staying in a toxic marriage or relationship 🤣🤣, but the same society will mock her for leaving a marriage 🤣. Overall, society will always criticize a woman for making any decisions 😭. Be a sister's keeper and work towards a better world with empowered women.
