Truth Sets Free

"And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming." — 1 John 2:28

John gives a simple but profound command: abide in Him. To abide is to remain, to stay connected, to live in continual fellowship with Jesus. It is not a one-time decision—it is a daily relationship. And the reason for abiding is clear: so that when Jesus appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him.

The coming of Christ is certain. The question is: will we be ready? Abiding in Him is the way to readiness. When we live in close fellowship with Jesus, we will not be caught off guard. We will welcome His return with joy.

When you settle into your salvation, you abide in Christ. You stay close to Him through prayer, His Word, and obedience. You live in daily dependence on Him. And you look forward to His return with confidence. In this devotion, we'll commit to abiding so that we will not be ashamed at His coming.

In the Great Controversy, the enemy's sin was pride. He wanted to be served, to be exalted, to be worshiped. Jesus, by contrast, humbled Himself and became a servant. His service was a direct defeat of the enemy's pride.

When we follow Jesus' example, we join in His victory. We defeat pride by humility. We defeat selfishness by service. The towel and basin are weapons in the cosmic conflict.

Paul emphasizes that God has placed each member in the body just as He pleased. Your place in the body of Christ is not an accident. It is not random. God has sovereignly placed you where you are, with the gifts He has given you.

The psalmist declares: my soul shall make its boast in the Lord. This is not a boast of pride—it is a boast of praise. He is boasting about God's greatness, His deliverance, and His goodness. His confidence is not in himself but in the Lord.

This boasting is a testimony. Others hear it and are encouraged. The humble—those who also trust in God—hear of His goodness and rejoice. The psalmist's praise is not just for himself; it builds up the body of believers.

When you settle into your salvation, you boast in the Lord. You do not boast in your own achievements, wisdom, or strength. You boast in His goodness and faithfulness. In this devotion, we'll let our praise encourage others.

"Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall." — 1 Corinthians 10:12

Paul gives a sobering warning: let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. The one who is most confident in their own strength is the one most in danger. Spiritual pride is a trap. It blinds us to our own weakness.

The remnant church—those who keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus—does not rely on human wisdom. They depend on God's revelation. He reveals deep and secret things through His Word and Spirit.

Like Daniel, the remnant seeks God in prayer. They ask for understanding. They trust Him to reveal what is hidden. They give Him praise for His wisdom and might.

When you settle into your salvation, you depend on God's wisdom. You do not trust in human philosophy or worldly insight. You seek God's revelation. In this devotion, we'll commit to depending on God's wisdom.

"And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever." — John 14:16

Jesus promises to send another Helper. The Greek word is Parakletos—meaning Advocate, Comforter, Counselor, One called alongside to help. This Helper is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father sends in Jesus' name (John 14:26).

This is not a replacement for Jesus—it is an extension of His presence. The Spirit is "another" Helper of the same kind, sent to carry on the work of Christ. He is not temporary; He will abide with believers forever.

When you settle into your salvation, you receive the Holy Spirit as your Helper. You are not alone. He is with you to guide, comfort, teach, and empower. In this devotion, we'll thank God for the gift of the Helper.

"He speaks from his own resources." — John 8:44

Jesus says that when the devil speaks a lie, it comes from his own nature. He does not borrow from truth. He does not learn from God. He speaks from his own corrupt resources.

This is a warning: the devil's lies are not harmless mistakes—they come from a corrupt source. They are designed to deceive, destroy, and lead away from God.

When you settle into your salvation, you recognize the source of deception. You do not entertain lies from the enemy. You reject them. You fill your mind with the truth of God's Word. In this devotion, we'll guard our hearts against the enemy's lies.

"If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared." — Psalm 130:3-4

The psalmist asks a profound question: If the Lord kept a record of sins, who could stand? The answer is obvious—no one. Every person has sinned and fallen short of God's glory (Romans 3:23). If God were to hold every sin against us, we would all be lost.

But the psalmist does not stop there. He declares: there is forgiveness with You. God does not mark iniquities against His people. He offers forgiveness. This is not a reason to sin—it is a reason to revere Him. His forgiveness leads to awe and worship.
