, working to serve the community is our priority. We are so excited to reach out to young student girls at quivoza primary school and the surrounding communities in Chongwe District to understand their challenges on menstrual products and mental health issues.
challenges highlighted:
# lack of safe spaces
# limited parental, teacher and community engagement and support
# girls are engaging in charcoal production for survival accelerating deforestation and climate change.
# trauma and anxiety remain unaddressed due to stigma reinforcing gender inequalities and living vulnerable girls at high risk of exclusion from education and essential services.
Our solution
1. We aim to establish safe spaces providing sustainable menstrual products and vital mental health counseling to address unaddressed trauma and anxiety.
2. To bridge isolation, we will engage parents and teachers to build a strong community support system.
3. To combat climate change and halt deforestation, we wish to introduce girls-led eco-friendly livelihood alternatives, such steering girls away from survival-driven charcoal production and successfully securing their rights to education, health and a resilient future.

Be positive,
We deeply appreciate UNDP-Zambia, UNICEF Zambia, WHO, MOH and partners for your unwavering commitment to advancing mental health awareness in our communities. As Mental Health Champions, we witness firsthand the challenges faced by vulnerable groups—youth, women and families—who struggle with stigma, limited resources and lack of access to care. Your support has already empowered us to spark conversations, build resilience and create safe spaces for healing.
Yet, the need remains urgent. Rising cases of depression, anxiety and die by su***de among our members demand sustained investment in education, outreach and community‑based interventions. With your continued partnership and capacity building, we can expand community mobilization and outreaches, strengthen peer networks and amplify voices that often go unheard. Together, we can transform mental health from a hidden struggle into a shared priority, ensuring dignity, hope and opportunity for all.
