The Chewa Heritage Foundation, Zambia Chapter, has disclosed that Chewa speaking people from Zimbabwe will attend the 2026 Kulamba Traditional Ceremony, joining their counterparts from Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.

This was confirmed by the fundraising and organising committee chairperson, Mr. Reuben Kamanga, in a statement issued in Lusaka today.

Mr. Kamanga said the Chewa people of Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique were excited to reunite with their brothers and sisters from Zimbabwe during this year’s ceremony.

He said the participation of the Zimbabwean Chewa community would further strengthen the cultural, historical and traditional bonds shared by Chewa speaking people across the region.

Mr. Kamanga further stated that the Chewa people were hopeful that, in the near future, they would also reconnect with Chewa communities in other countries, including Tanzania and other areas through which their ancestors passed before settling in present-day Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.

He confirmed that this year’s Kulamba Traditional Ceremony of the Chewa people of Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique will take place on 29 August 2026.

Mr. Kamanga disclosed that preparations for the ceremony had gained momentum, with a fundraising dinner scheduled to take place at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka on Saturday, 25 July 2026, starting at 18:00 hours.

He further disclosed that the fundraising dinner will be graced by traditional chiefs from Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.

Mr. Kamanga encouraged Chewa people, members of the general public and friends of the Chewa community to attend the fundraising dinner in large numbers, noting that the event would mark the beginning of celebrations leading up to this year’s Kulamba Traditional Ceremony.

He revealed that the evergreen Amayenge Cultural Ensemble and the Green Labels would provide the main entertainment at the fundraising dinner, alongside the ever-entertaining Gule Wamkulu.

The Organising Committee Chairperson further disclosed that tickets for the fundraising dinner are on sale through CompuTicket, available at Shoprite outlets countrywide and Ndeke hotel reception in Longacres, Lusaka.

Mr. Kamanga also called upon the corporate sector, business community, cooperating partners and other well-wishers to come on board and support the successful hosting of the 2026 Kulamba Traditional Ceremony.

Paramount Chief Kalonga Gawa Undi of the Chewa people has with immediate effect, banned the growing of Virginia to***co in all Chewa chiefdoms across Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, and other parts of the world.
The directive was announced on Friday, 17th July 2026, during a meeting held at Chanje Palace between Comaco staff and local headmen.
The Comaco delegation was sent by Paramount Chief Kalonga Gawa Undi to explain resolutions made by chiefs, two to three months ago in Mkaika, Katete District.
According to a statement made available to Breeze FM News, Chief Chanje disclosed that the decision was driven by growing concerns over forest destruction and climate change.
The traditional leader said the measures are necessary to protect forests, improve community health, and address the effects of climate change in all Chewa land. See less
