1930s The Mummy
I created this monster makeup look as my entry to this year’s 31 Days of Mehron Halloween contest, with the following theme: 100 YEARS OF MONSTER MAKEUP.
My inspiration traces back to 1922, when British archeologist Howard Carter discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb and the Egyptomania it sparked — leading to Universal’s 1932 film The Mummy, brought to life by legendary makeup artist Jack Pierce.
Rather than bandages, I portrayed the character as Pierce and director Karl Freund first showed it on screen: awakened and unwrapped, flesh withered by centuries entombed.
Using Mehron Paradise Makeup AQ in Mango, I built up the sun-baked, withered texture layer by layer — a tribute to a pivotal moment in monster makeup history.
