That white, frosty layer after a laser tattoo removal treatment? Despite what TikTok might tell you… it’s not your tattoo ink leaving your skin.
It’s called laser frosting, and it’s actually caused by tiny gas bubbles forming in the upper layers of the skin when the laser rapidly heats the tattoo pigment. This creates a temporary white appearance that usually fades within 10–30 minutes.
What the laser is doing is breaking the tattoo ink into smaller particles. Over the following weeks, your body’s immune system gradually clears those tiny fragments away. That’s why tattoo removal is a process, not an instant result.
So, frosting = a normal treatment endpoint.
Ink disappearing = something that happens over time, not on the treatment bed.
If you’ve never heard these treatments before, this is definitely not what it sounds like.
