For her birthday, my client had one request: a Labyrinth-inspired nail set that captured all her favourite moments from the movie. The catch? She didn’t want extensions.

For some nail techs, detailed character-inspired nail art on short natural nails might feel limiting. For me, it didn’t even register as a challenge. 💅🏼

This client is a self-confessed goth girlie who usually lives in monochrome, dark nail art, and all things black. But this appointment, she wanted to experiment with fiery reds and chrome finishes while still keeping that dark, alternative aesthetic she loves.

So we met in the middle.

A fully customised freestyle set featuring molten chrome, gothic florals, metallic details, and deep red flashes that feel dramatic without losing the moody vibe. When this client first came to my Brisbane nail studio, her natural nails weren’t strong enough to support length. So instead of forcing a one-size-fits-all approach, we created a plan together — starting with Gel X extensions before gradually transitioning into hard gel overlays designed to protect and support her natural nail growth journey.
But what means the most to me wasn’t just the transformation of her nails.
