You don’t even like it… but you’re still keeping it.

I see this all the time with things that have been passed down.

Furniture, ornaments, boxes of things that don’t actually fit your life anymore… but you keep them anyway.

Not because you love them.
Not because you’d ever choose them again.

But because they were someone else’s.

Because it feels sentimental, meaningful and letting it go feels like you’re letting them go too.

And that’s the part that keeps you stuck.

We’ve been taught that keeping everything is how we show respect.
That holding onto it means we care.

But the truth is, carrying things that don’t feel like you anymore isn’t honouring them.

It’s weighing you down.

You don’t need every single item to remember someone.
You don’t need a house full of things to prove that they mattered.

You can choose a few things that genuinely feel special to you.
The ones that bring a good feeling when you see them.
The ones that actually fit into your life now.

And the rest?

It’s okay to let it go.
It’s okay for someone else to use it, love it, and enjoy it.

That doesn’t take anything away from the person it came from.

It just means you’re choosing to move forward, without carrying everything with you.

At some point, you have to ask yourself honestly…

Am I keeping this because I want it in my life
or because I feel like I should?

Because if it’s obligation, it’s not yours to carry.

Sometimes it’s not about the stuff.
It’s about what it represents.

I see this a lot with parents and the things they have kept from their children’s younger years.

You kept everything because it mattered.
Because it was a moment in time and it felt important to hold onto.

But over time, it has built up. Every painting, every piece of art, multiple pieces from each year.
Proud moments as a parent, wanting to never forget.
And instead of it feeling meaningful, it starts to feel heavy.

The truth is, you don’t need to keep everything to honour the memory of those younger years.

You can keep a few things that genuinely matter and let the rest go.

Because your life isn’t there anymore and holding onto all of it doesn’t bring it back.

It just keeps you connected to it.

And at some point, you have to decide what you’re taking with you
and what you’re ready to leave behind in the next chapter of your life you are wanting to build.

The memories attached to your stuff are keeping you stuck!

You might not realise it straight away, because on the surface it just looks like “things”.

But it’s not the item.
It’s what it represents.

Every time you see it, it takes you back.

Back to that person, that situation and that version of you.

The hurt.
The disappointment.
The weight of it.

And then you wonder why you feel stuck.
Why nothing is shifting and you can’t fully move forward.

Because you’re trying to build something new…
while you’re surrounded by reminders of what you haven’t let go of.

At some point, you have to be honest with yourself and ask.

Is this part of the life I’m creating now…
or is it keeping me tied to something I’ve already outgrown?

Because if it keeps pulling you back,
it has no place in where you’re going.

Drop🪞if you know something is holding you back.
