Four years ago, I had no idea how much my health, body and relationship with training would change.
In 2022, I suffered a serious knee injury playing rugby league. I did the physio, rehab and low-impact work, but the injury left me with chronic arthritis.
Over time, the pain, stiffness and knee buckling worsened. Eventually, even stairs became difficult.
A specialist told me that losing weight would improve my quality of life.
Then I fell pregnant.
I had my first baby, then became pregnant again six months later.
By September 2025, I was around 110kg, uncomfortable and struggling with basic movement. Getting off the couch felt like I needed WD-40. 😂
I began postpartum rehab with low-impact movement. At three months postpartum, I brought my coach back to help me rebuild my strength.
It hasn’t been quick or easy. I’ve had setbacks, modifications and plenty of adjustments. I’ve also worked closely with my GP to ensure support my health after two pregnancies.
Now, 12 months later, I’m around 72kg, eating at maintenance and proud of the strength I’ve built. I’m not lifting what I used to, and I still modify movements for my knee. But I’m training consistently, fuelling myself properly and improving every session.
Most importantly, I love training again. My confidence is coming back. My strength is coming back. My mojo is coming back too.

Tonight I had the opportunity to work with 10 fighters in a mindset coaching seminar ahead of this weekend’s Golden Gloves boxing event.
We covered the science behind performing at your best, and practical tools and techniques fighters can use to prepare their mind just as intentionally as they prepare their body.
What works for one athlete might not work for another. Developing self-awareness, learning how to check in with yourself, and understanding how to take control of your mind under pressure is a huge part of performing consistently at your best.
Physical preparation gets you to the fight. Mental preparation helps you show up and perform.
Thanks to SHDW Boxing Gym for the ongoing collab — and good luck to all the fighters this weekend. 🥊
And, in true Kirst fashion… I took ZERO photos. 😂

You can have the strength, the skill and the preparation, but if your mindset doesn’t hold up under pressure, your performance can suffer.
Mindset coaching helps athletes develop practical skills to:
• manage nerves and pressure
• build confidence and self-belief
• respond to setbacks
• stay focused when it matters
Your physical performance is only part of the equation. Train your mind too.

A road to a stronger mindset looks different for everyone. What is it that you need?

It’s been a while since we did some body composition analysis.
One of my fighters needs to drop weight, we’re going to do a structured plan and lose body fat safely, whilst maintaining muscle and strength gains. Tonight we did a weigh in to get some baseline measurements and write a plan. In boxing, divisions are classified on bodyweight, so in this case it makes perfect sense to use the scales. But it may not be the best (or only) measurement for you.
I thought I’d take the opportunity to share some thoughts on tracking progress - too much attention is given solely to the scales.

Not every session is in beast mode.
Because consistency > intensity when it comes to long-term progress.
I’ve never walked out of a session and thought “wish I didn’t do that.”
But I have regretted the ones I skipped.
Keep showing up. Even when it’s not sexy.

Monday = longest day of the week… but somehow I’m sitting here feeling SO energised tonight ⚡️
Tonight I got to sit down with 3 new S&C clients and map out their next 12 weeks 🔥
Individually tailored programs built around their goals, their sport, and their life.
Not just what’s in the program… but why it’s there.
How every piece actually moves them forward.
The best part?
The buy-in. The energy. The commitment.
It’s infectious.
I’m so bloody excited to see what this cohort brings over the next 12 weeks 💪
Y’all seriously give me life 🫶
