Technique trumps the perfect products. Every. Time.
Let me explain..
Look, I’m all for amazing products that make our styling life easier, and make our styles hold longer…
But thinking the right products will fix your styling.
They won’t…
It’s your technique that gives you curls that last, smooth flyaways, and the confidence to know exactly what curl to use, when to use it, and in which direction—so you can recreate a style that holds because of the technique.. not relying on the product you use.
Stop obsessing over the what products everyone is using, and get your technique and craft down pat first…
This is exactly what I teach inside Downstyle Mastery. ALONGSIDE the best products to use for every hair type 💗

Q+A: What brand of texture powder is in my hair kit? 👀
KYK HAIR CARE 💕
Want your waves to stay tucked behind the ear without falling back over or bulky / visible bobby pins? 👀
This is the technique I teach all of my students inside downstyle mastery
✨ The secret is in the direction + keeping the pins closed…
Instead of pinning with the flow, we pin against it. And don’t open your pins!
This grips the hair in place, keeps it flat, and keeps the pins completely hidden.
Watch till the end to see exactly how I do it.
It’s one of those tiny details that instantly elevates your finished style and gives your client a hairstyle that actually lasts.

Lil face framer detail 👀
When it comes to face framing, don’t just spray the top… spray underneath too.
It’s one of those tiny finishing touches that helps control flyaways, create hold and keep everything sitting exactly where you want it.
And this is exactly how I teach inside Upstyle Queen.
Not just the upstyle itself, but the planning, prep, pinning, perfecting and all the little details that take a style from good to exceptional ✨

STOP 🙅🏻♀️ holding onto your hair straightener for dear life….
If your curls feel hard to do with an iron, and keep getting “snagged” creating lines in the hair… This could be why 👀
Most artists are gripping their straightener far too tightly.
The goal isn’t to clamp the hair.
The goal is to guide it.
✨ Watch till the end to see exactly how I teach my students to use the correct tension when working with a straightening iron for smoother results, better control and less frustration.
It’s not about hard tension.. or doing it hand free 😂 it’s about EVEN and LIGHT tension from using both hands. The irons should simply be JUSSSST closing on that hair…
It’s a simple adjustment, but once you feel the difference you’ll never go back.

I cut my Melissa doll short to teach you this 😅
One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that so many makeup artists get to a point where they feel confident with long hair… but completely panic when a Mother of the Bride or Grandma of the Bride sits in their chair with short hair.
And honestly? I get it.
Most hair education focuses on curls, waves and upstyles, while short hair is often completely overlooked.
That’s exactly why I created this tutorial inside Downstyle Mastery - a full blowdry and style from scratch…
Because if you’re going to offer hairstyling, you need to feel confident with ALL hair lengths—not just the easy ones.
In this lesson, I break down exactly how I approach short hair blow dries so you can confidently create soft volume, shape and polish for your mature clients.
And sometimes it’s the tiny finishing touches around the face that make the biggest difference 🤍
Save this for later.

(Also not so sad I cut my Melissa doll… she’s scrappy do you agree? 🫢🤪)
PREP IS KEY 🔑 it sounds basic… but it really is the MVP 😮💨 If you’re still getting frizz in your upstyles .. your prep must be basic and not in a good way 🫢
If your a student in either downstyle mastery or upstyle queen - don’t forget to post your q’s for me inside the private fb group - I got your back 💕💁🏻♀️
If you’re not enrolled in one of my memberships comment “hair help” if you have professional hair q’s for me!
If your curls always seem messy, frizzy or full of flyaways, this is for you 👀
Most artists think the problem is their curling technique.
More often than not, it starts with their sectioning.
✨ Watch till the end to see exactly how I create clean sections that capture every hair, reduce flyaways and create a much cleaner finished result.
It’s one of those small details that makes a huge difference.
This is the #1 biggest issue if you are creating messy or “flyaway” curls - it’s also a hard thing to re-train your brain to do every single time.
Clean sections = clean curls
Messy sections = messy curls
Every damn time - no exceptions!! 🙅🏻♀️
Save this for your next set of curls or waves.

If you want to add hairstyling to your makeup artistry, comment “YOU HAD ME AT BRUSHES” below 🤪
And if you don’t get the reference yet… watch till the end 🤣
One of the biggest misconceptions I see is makeup artists thinking they’re behind because they don’t already do hair. Or it will take too long to pick up the new skill and confidently offer it to their clients…
Honestly?
It’s often the opposite.
It’s much easier for me to teach someone with no hairstyling experience than someone who’s been taught incorrectly.
Why?
Because there are no bad habits to break. I spend a lot more time helping re-jig the brains of already taught stylists than I do with new students totally fresh to the hair styling game!!
Just about getting those right foundations from day one.
And the best part?
You already have clients.
Most clients want hair and makeup, not one or the other - so you’re sitting on a revenue doubler 😮💨
Watch till the end and let me know if this changed your perspective!
