Our beautiful bride Lauren has buttery blonde hair but her natural skin undertone is deeply, beautifully cool. Instead of forcing a cookie cutter template, our team customised her soft glam using cool, muted mauves, dusty plum contours, and soft rosy blushes to make her skin truly glow. 🤩

Bridal Makeup Science: From Afternoon Ceremony to Evening Reception 💍

Our gorgeous bride is a classic True Autumn with natural copper hair and grey blue eyes, but she also possesses a highly reactive skin barrier with surface redness and flushing.
Here is the color theory breakdown behind this flawless, transition proof base:

The Neck Match: We completely ignored the surface redness on her face and matched her foundation directly to her warm, fair neck, shoulders and chest.

The Custom Blend: We mixed TIRTIR Mask Fit Red Foundation in 24N Latte and 13N Fair Ivory. The peach/yellow undertones of this cult favorite formula completely neutralised her redness and active skin without leaving a heavy, grey cast.

The Contrast: Warm terracotta and ch*****ne shimmers on the lids made her grey blue eyes instantly pop, while Modelrock’s Sheer Luxe Silk Lipgloss in Sheer Caramel over a spiced liner tied the entire monochromatic warmth together.

My last post attracted a lot of sudden attention from some passionate commenters!!🧌🤣which really opened my eyes! It made me realise that when scrolling quickly, it’s easy to skip reading or miss the deeper science of colour theory. Rather than letting that discourage me, it has made me even more excited to use my page as a kind, welcoming space for real makeup education.

Today, I’m sharing a beautiful breakdown with full consent from this absolute angel, who was a gorgeous member of the wedding party (the groom's sister!). On the wedding morning, she brought me a very popular reference photo featuring a massive social media trend of cool, bright pink blush paired with a heavy brown lip.
Now, let's be completely clear!! the artistry in those inspiration photos is absolutely beautiful! But part of my job as a professional artist is to evaluate if a trend translates beautifully to your unique features, real life lighting, and wedding photography.
For this stunning girl, that specific trend combination just wasn't the correct fit. Here is why:
🚀 The Undertone Clash Forcing a highly contrasting cool pink blush right next to a heavy, warm brown lip can completely segment the face instead of pulling a look together. On her beautiful natural canvas, it would fight her features rather than harmonise them.
🚀 The Wedding Day Reality Trends like this rely heavily on specific studio lighting, heavy editing, and filters to make the harsh color contrast blend together on an Instagram grid. In real life and under the beautiful, bright sun of a wedding day it can often look disconnected.
Instead of just blindly copying the photo, we collaborated on the wedding morning! We took the core elements she loved the gorgeous definition and the soft, radiant glow and customised the color palette to elevate her natural DNA.

The green checkmark look uses beautifully harmonised tones that melt into her skin, keeping her looking radiant, timeless, and effortlessly expensive from the ceremony all the way to the dance floor.

When you sit in a professional artist's chair on a wedding day, you aren't just paying for someone to apply product. You are payiIng for an eye that knows exactly how to make your unique features pop. Trust the process!

Let’s talk about a major makeup artist dilemma: The Client Who Insists on a look and products that don’t suit 😳

This gorgeous bride came to me with a strict brief: she wanted cool berry pinks, cool mauve shadows, and brought her own cool pink undertone foundation because her Mum was convinced she belonged in the cool Winter family. She was not going to budge on the colour palette or the use of her own products. My advice and suggestions initially fell on deaf ears.

As a professional, my color theory alarms were instantly going off. Looking at her natural canvas in the before photo, she is a textbook Warm Autumn. She has stunning golden hazel eyes, warm freckling, and rich caramel honey ribbons running through her curls.

When you force cool, blue based pinks and an icy foundation onto a warm golden base, the makeup fights the skin instead of melting into it. A cool foundation will actually make an Autumn skin tone look a little sallow or grey because it’s trying to suffocate that gorgeous, natural warmth.

As an artist, my job is to make my clients happy, so I executed her vision with pristine blending and symmetry. She left feeling confident and loved her trial look which is always a win! But I did not feel good about the look 😕

In my honest opinion it’s the ultimate proof that Color Theory trumps every single time. If she had let me take the wheel, we would have transformed her into a sun kissed, expensive looking goddess using rich terracottas, toasted peaches, and warm bronzes to match her natural DNA.

Future brides: when you book a pro, you aren't just paying for someone to apply product. You are paying for an eye that knows exactly how to make your natural features pop. Trust the process (and your artist’s kit)! 👑✨
