When should you start treating a scar?

Scar management isn’t just about what treatment you use - when you introduce it matters too.

Early scar management can help support healing - but timing depends on the wound and the treatment. Once a wound has closed and the skin is ready, interventions can be introduced progressively to support the appearance of the resulting scar.

Early healing ➡️ LED

2-4 weeks ➡️ Scar Massage

2+ weeks ➡️ Silicone tape / gel

4-6 weeks ➡️ Laser Genesis

6-8 weeks ➡️ Micro-needling

There’s no one-size-fits-all timeline. Your skins healing, location, type and treatment goals all influence when treatment should begin.

🔴 PIE: persistent red / pink marks from post-inflammatory vascular changes.

🟤 brown/grey marks from increased melanin after inflammation.

Persistent redness after acne or surgery?
Lingering pink or red marks following acne breakouts, or redness associated with surgical scars, can be particularly persistent.

At Cosmedic Beauty Cairns, our team can assess your skin and scar characteristics to determine whether and/or professional skincare may be appropriate for your individual concerns.

Evidence supports the use of selected vascular laser and light-based treatments for post-acne erythema (persistent redness) and demonstrated improvements in the vascularity and overall appearance of some surgical scars. However, there is no single treatment that is appropriate for everyone, so careful assessment and individualised treatment planning are important.

Telangiectasias, diffuse redness, and visible vessels occur when small blood vessels become enlarged, more fragile, or more noticeable beneath the skin.
While genetics and ageing play a major role, factors such as UV exposure, inflammation, hormonal changes (including pregnancy and menopause) prolonged pressure on veins from standing or sitting, smoking, and skin trauma can also contribute to vascular changes. Understanding these triggers can help explain why visible vessels develop and guide the right treatment approach.

It’s not just sensitive skin! - Rosacea is a common inflammatory skin condition, but with the right assessment and management, its symptoms can often be significantly improved.
