I’ve been doing hair for over 26 years, and this year has been the toughest I’ve experienced.

The cost of living has changed everything. Clients are stretching appointments further apart, cancellations are harder to refill, and there are weeks where my income looks more like part-time work than full-time.

Owning a salon isn’t just about doing hair. It’s rent, utilities, software, stock, insurance, BAS, and trying to keep the doors open while still showing up every day with a smile.

I’ve also watched more and more salons move to freelance models, making it incredibly difficult to find stylists who want employment or chair rental. It’s a very different industry to the one I started in.

To be completely honest, I’ve started applying for government jobs. Not because I don’t love hair, absolutely do, but because I need stability. I have a family to support, and sometimes the brave thing isn’t pretending everything is okay. Sometimes it’s adapting.

Her Hair isn’t closing. I’m still here, still looking after my clients, and still giving every appointment everything I’ve got.

I just wanted to share the reality behind the polished Instagram posts. Small business can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be incredibly hard.

If you’ve continued to support my business this year, whether you’ve sat in my chair, referred a friend, bought a product or simply shared a post… thank you. It genuinely means more than you’ll ever know.

A little update, because I know so many of you have been asking.

Unfortunately, the sale of my salon will not be going ahead.

This has been one of the most difficult and heartbreaking experiences I’ve been through professionally. After months of planning, delays, legal processes and believing I was about to start an exciting new chapter, everything has changed unexpectedly.

To say I’m devastated is an understatement. Right now I’m still trying to process it all, so I hope you’ll understand if I don’t want to talk through the details every time I’m asked.

For now, it’s business as usual. I’ll continue working from Her Hair and all existing appointments will remain exactly as booked.

Thank you to every single client who has supported me, encouraged me and shown me kindness over the past few months. It has meant more than you’ll ever know.

I’m hopeful that, in time, a new opportunity will come along. But for now, I’m just taking things one day at a time.

✨ A new chapter… ✨

After almost five incredible years, it’s time to share some exciting news.

I’ve officially sold the Her Hair salon fit-out, bringing to a close a chapter that has meant so much to me.

Thank you to every single client who has trusted me over the years. Your loyalty and support have allowed me to build a space that I’m incredibly proud of.

I also want to thank every freelancer who has shared Her Hair with me over the past five years. Whether you were with me for a few months or a few years, each of you played a part in creating such a welcoming, supportive environment. I’ve loved watching your businesses grow, and I’m so grateful our paths crossed.

While the salon itself has changed hands, Her Hair is still very much my business. I haven’t sold my clients or my brand, I simply won’t be working from that location anymore.

I’m currently enjoying a little break and will be returning to work on 16th July, when I’ll be freelancing from Studio Nora in Kingston. I’m especially excited to be reunited with my beautiful friends Christina and Cassandra, and I can’t wait to welcome you all into my new space.

Although it’s bittersweet saying goodbye to the salon that has been my second home for almost five years, I’m genuinely excited for what’s ahead. Sometimes the next chapter is the one you didn’t know you needed.
