At HTM, an FUE hair transplant doesn't mean shaving your whole head. The back and sides are trimmed, so the hair on top can stay at its normal length.

The trimmed area usually takes three to six weeks to grow back. Dr Paul will talk you through what to expect for your haircut at your consultation.

Scalp micropigmentation is a non-surgical technique that replicates the look of tiny hair follicles to create the appearance of density. It can suit a range of hair loss patterns and is another option worth discussing. Results vary between individuals, and a consultation is required to determine whether this treatment is suitable for you.

Dr Paul on why a transplant is only part of the plan.

A transplant replaces hair that has already gone. It doesn't stop the hair you still have from continuing to thin, so protecting your existing hair is part of the conversation at your consultation.

When will you see growth after a hair transplant?

Dr Paul Robinson explains the usual timeline.

New hairs usually start coming through at around three to four months. Growth tends to build from six to nine months. The front and mid scalp usually take around 12 to 14 months, and the crown can take longer, often 16 to 18 months. Everyone's timeline is different, and early growth can be patchy.

While it grows, you'll see Dr Paul at aftercare check-ins, which are part of your transplant fee.

Is a hair transplant a cure for hair loss? Dr Paul's answer is a clear no.

A transplant moves hair from the back and sides of your scalp to replace hair that has already been lost. It does nothing to stop the hair you still have from continuing to thin. That's why part of your consultation is about how to protect your existing hair, and why we plan your donor area for the long term. Your donor hair is limited, so transplanting your way out of ongoing hair loss isn't a good plan.

Everyone's hair loss is different, and the HTM team can help you understand your options.

A patchy or uneven beard can be filled using the same follicular techniques used for the scalp, following the natural direction of growth. This can help fill gaps, cover scarring or define sideburns for a fuller result. Results vary between individuals, and a hair transplant is a medical procedure that carries risks, so an individual consultation is required to determine whether it is suitable for you.

Thinning eyebrows, whether from over-plucking, genetics or medical conditions, can affect the balance of the face. Eyebrow transplants use your own hair, carefully placed to follow the natural angle of brow growth. Results vary between individuals, and a hair transplant is a medical procedure that carries risks, so an individual consultation is required to determine whether it is suitable for you.
