SALON CLOSED — MONDAY 12TH OCTOBER
The salon will be closed today as Sarah and I are off to a Grey Hair Colouring course.
As Grey Coverage & Natural Colour Specialists, grey hair is obviously a huge part of what we do, so we're always looking to keep learning and improving our knowledge and skills.
We're looking forward to a full day of education, learning some new techniques and hopefully bringing plenty of new knowledge back to the salon.
We'll be back open as normal on Wednesday.

“I was told to come to you because you're good with grey hair.”
That's how this lovely new client found us.
Her previous hairdresser was no longer around, she'd tried a few others but hadn't really been happy, so she'd ended up letting her hair grow out for a while.
Before we started, we sat down and talked about what she actually wanted from her hair.
Grey coverage was a must, but she was also open to adding a little interest.
I showed her a few different ideas, and when I showed her a natural brown with some coloured foils, her eyes lit up.
That was it. We knew where we were going.
Her haircut needed a complete restyle too. I'd actually already taken quite a bit off the back before I remembered to grab a photo 🤦♀️ but we reshaped it completely to get rid of that longer, mullet-like shape.
The result was complete grey coverage, natural brown with those pops of colour, and a fresh new shape.
And later I got a text from her saying:
“My husband says it looks great.” 😂
I'd call that a successful first visit.

A little look at what I got up to at the NAK Collective Breakfast 👀
Last month I headed down to Melbourne for the annual NAK Collective Breakfast and there are some pretty exciting things coming!
We got a sneak peek at some of the new NAK products launching soon, including one that has already arrived in the salon Luminous Lift.
Luminous Lift is NAK's new ammonia-free powder lightener, designed to give us more controlled, even lightening while helping us achieve healthier-looking results.
And yes... I've already got it in the salon and can't wait to start using it. 😂
There are also some other new products coming that I'm very excited about, but you'll have to wait a little longer for those. 👀
The morning wasn't just about products though.
We also learnt about what's happening across the hair industry, heard some really interesting industry figures and results, and did some great training around business, marketing and the client experience.
We also had the chance to catch up and connect with our NAK friends and other salon owners, which is always great at these events.
Plus there was free coffee and food... so really, what more could you want? 😂
I always come home from these days with new ideas, new knowledge and plenty of motivation and this time, some exciting new products to play with too.
Can't wait to share more of what's coming! 👀

How was everyone’s long weekend? 💛 We hope you all enjoyed the extra day!
We’re a day later than usual with our weekly availability after yesterday’s public holiday and we’re heading into a very heavily booked week!

EFTPOS surcharges are gone from our salon… but are they really gone? 🤔
Our clients no longer pay an EFTPOS surcharge — but unfortunately, that doesn’t mean the fee disappears. We pay it instead.
The bank/payment provider still charges us a fee every time a card is tapped.
On one transaction, that fee might not seem like much. But across hundreds of appointments, week after week, it all adds up.
And the reality is, the profit margin in a small business is already much smaller than many people realise. Every extra fee is another cost that eats into that margin.
Like everyone, we’re feeling the rising cost of living — but small businesses are also dealing with increasing wages, super, stock, electricity, insurance, rent, EFTPOS fees and all the other costs that come with keeping the doors open.
We absolutely understand that cash isn’t always convenient, and card payments are still very welcome. This isn’t about making anyone feel bad for tapping their card.
We’re simply asking that when you can, please consider paying with cash.
Because while it might seem like a small thing, it genuinely does make a difference to a small local business like ours. ❤️

I know no one wants to hear this but... Christmas is coming. 🎄😂
Yep... I said it.
And while Christmas might still feel like ages away, December is already starting to get busy.
Those last few weeks before Christmas always fill quickly, and we really don't want you to miss out on getting your hair done before Christmas.
So if you haven't booked your December appointment yet, now is a good time to get it organised before the days and times that suit you are gone.

“I think my colour is starting to look a bit too dark.”
We hear this quite a lot from women who have been covering their greys for years.
When you first started colouring, you might only have had a small amount of grey.
So the darker colour you chose worked beautifully.
But fast-forward a few years and there's now a lot more grey coming through.
Suddenly that same colour can start to feel a little too dark, too solid or just not quite right anymore.
That doesn't necessarily mean you need a completely different colour.
Sometimes we just need to start tweaking what we're already doing.
We might:
• soften the depth
• adjust the tone
• add a few lighter pieces
• change the amount of natural colour in your formula
• or soften the type of coverage we're using
Sometimes they're only small changes, but they can make a big difference to how your colour looks against your skin and how noticeable your regrowth feels.
And if you still love being darker? That's okay too.
We're not trying to make everyone lighter as they get greyer.
We're simply making sure the colour we're doing now still suits the hair you have now.
