NAC is a powder which can be added to other compounded powders, to add to your daily routine. It is traditionally used for clearing buildup in the body, but here the science shows how it is being used to help auto immune diseases. I prescribe this, and can compound it along with other supplements, to better support your health. Please book an appointment to discuss your health needs: www.reviveyourhealth.com.au
NAC in Specific Autoimmune Diseases
N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is best known as a precursor to glutathione, one of the body's most important antioxidants. Research continues to explore how restoring glutathione and reducing oxidative stress may help support immune balance in several autoimmune conditions.
Here are some of the autoimmune diseases where NAC has been studied:
• Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE): Clinical studies have shown that NAC may reduce disease activity by lowering oxidative stress, restoring T-cell function, and suppressing the mTOR pathway. Research has also reported improvements in fatigue and overall quality of life.
• Multiple Sclerosis (MS): Oxidative stress and glutamate excitotoxicity contribute to nerve damage in MS. NAC has been investigated for its ability to replenish glutathione, regulate glutamate, and support brain metabolism and cerebral blood flow.
• Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA): NAC's antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties may help reduce synovial inflammation by lowering NF-κB activity and pro-inflammatory cytokine production. It is not considered a standalone treatment but may complement other orthomolecular interventions.
• Type 1 Diabetes: Early research suggests NAC may help protect pancreatic beta cells from oxidative damage and support islet cell survival by strengthening antioxidant defenses.
• Hashimoto's Thyroiditis: While direct clinical evidence is limited, NAC's ability to increase glutathione may help support thyroid redox balance. Glutathione plays an important role in protecting thyroid tissue from oxidative damage and in the conversion of T4 to the active T3 hormone.
• Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): In Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, NAC has been studied for its potential to reduce mucosal oxidative stress, support intestinal barrier function, and decrease inflammatory cytokines, making it a potential adjunct to standard therapies.
NAC continues to be an area of active research in orthomolecular medicine. Understanding the science behind its clinical applications can help practitioners make more informed decisions about its use as part of a comprehensive care plan.

Boswellia is a strong and effective pain remedy, useful for pain as well as inflammation. I prescribe a pain remedy in pill format (Boswellia being a resin does not work well in liquid format) which also includes turmeric, another anti-inflammatory. This is helpful for joint pain, arthritis and nerve pain, please see me in clinic to discuss your health needs.

Taking vitamin D is being shown to decrease likelihood of dementia. Best benefits appear from taking earlier, with studies starting from 50 years, at dosage of around 5,000iu per day. Given Vitamin D also helps with absorption of magnesium, immunity, and bone health, it would be difficult not to accept how essential this supplement is to our health. I stock versions of vitamin D in dropper or spray format, making it easy to get daily dosage without taking 5 capsules. Please see me in clinic to discuss your health needs.

Great article, and backs up the advice I have given for years on regulating bowel movements. Kiwifruit are high in vitamin C, are proven to help with constipation, and more recently, they are being used to help with quality sleep. Start eating two each day (in the evening if you are looking to improve sleep) and let me know how it has helped you. Please see me in clinic to discuss any health issues in more detail.
Two green kiwifruits a day produced a larger increase in complete spontaneous bowel movements than psyllium in a randomized trial, even though both provided about the same amount of fiber.
The study followed 121 adults with difficult bowel movements or IBS-C. Each person tried two green kiwis daily for four weeks and 7.5 grams of psyllium daily for four weeks, with a washout period between treatments. Both supplied approximately 6 grams of fiber per day.
Across the combined group, kiwifruit added an average of 1.69 complete spontaneous bowel movements per week compared with baseline. Psyllium added 0.90. The difference between treatments was statistically significant, although psyllium clearly helped too.
Why might equal grams of fiber produce different results? Fiber describes an amount, but foods differ in structure and in how they hold water. In a separate MRI study of healthy adults, kiwifruit increased intestinal water content and colonic volume. That offers a plausible explanation for easier stool passage. It does not establish why kiwifruit did better than psyllium in this trial, since psyllium also holds water and the researchers did not isolate a mechanism.
The result also needs its boundary. The difference between treatments was statistically significant when the two diagnostic groups were combined, but not when either group was analyzed separately. Each treatment lasted four weeks, participants knew what they were taking, and a kiwifruit company funded the study.
Two green kiwis are a practical food option with clinical trial support. Psyllium remains a useful option as well.

Human touch is necessary, helpful and beneficial for good health, and now there is science to prove it. One effective firm of physical touch is remedial massage. Book in now for a massage and improve your health on www.reviveyourhealth.com.au
”In over 30 years, I've never seen something this powerful.”
Scientists show human touch is a potent biological medicine, capable of instantly calming the brain's threat centers and alleviating chronic pain, anxiety, and depression.
For decades, physical touch has been viewed as a comforting but non-essential part of human interaction. However, recent neurological breakthroughs have revealed that skin-to-skin contact is actually a critical biological mechanism deeply embedded in our neural architecture.
When we experience comforting touch, such as a brief hug or a reassuring hand on the shoulder, a rapid cascade of events occurs in the body: stress hormones like cortisol plunge, blood pressure drops, and specialized nerve fibers fire directly to signal safety to the brain's threat center.
Neuroscientists studying these effects have observed unprecedented drops in neural threat responsiveness, with some experts noting they have never seen a single stimulus so profoundly quiet the brain.
The implications of these findings are monumental, especially in an increasingly isolated digital age where 'touch hunger' is on the rise. A massive systematic review of over 212 studies involving more than 13,000 participants confirmed that touch interventions deliver substantial physical and mental health benefits, regardless of whether the contact comes from a loved one or a professional. From helping newborns regulate respiration to boosting immune function and cutting depression scores in clinical patients, deliberate physical connection is emerging as a powerful, drug-free therapy. Ultimately, incorporating simple, consensual physical gestures into our daily routines could be the cheapest and most effective way to protect our long-term health.

The Omega 3 Index test is an easy test and gives so much info on how much omega 3 is in your blood. I use this for the people who think that having fish and avocado and couple of times a week is enough as it’s an obvious way to show your levels. Diet is rarely enough, and supplementing with quality high dose fish oils is a good at to ensure you get enough omega 3 fatty acids to keep your brain functioning optimally. Please see me in clinic to get the test and the best supplements for your best health.

Age is not an excuse to stop exercising. The stronger you stay, the better you age. It doesn’t take much, but you do have to start now. I just posted a link to a deal at the gym where I teach Pilates. You can do exercise at home. You can walk. You can use the two minutes every time your kettle is boiling to do squats, or pushups. There is always time. What you need is to start..
See me in clinic to chat about feeling WELL, so you can start doing more, so you feel GREAT.
Physical fitness does not appear to peak at one universal age. Different physical capacities reach their highest point years apart, and what happens after that peak is strongly influenced by how active we remain.
Researchers followed 427 Swedish adults from age 16 to 63, repeatedly measuring aerobic capacity, upper-body muscular endurance, and leg power over 47 years. Relative aerobic capacity peaked at about age 26 in men and 31 in women. Bench-press endurance peaked later, around 36 in men and 34 in women. Leg power peaked earliest, at an estimated age 27 in men and 19 in women.
The more important finding may be what happened afterward. Decline was initially slow, but accelerated with age. By 63, participants had lost roughly 30% to 48% of their peak capacity depending on the measure. Relative aerobic capacity was about 37% lower in women and 40% lower in men, while vertical-jump performance had fallen 48% and 41%, respectively.
Physical activity did not appear to prevent the biological timing of peak performance, but it was associated with substantially better performance across adulthood. People who went from inactive to active had approximately 6% to 7% higher aerobic capacity, 11% better bench-press endurance, and 4% better vertical-jump performance in the study models.
That distinction matters. Aging eventually reduces physical capacity even in highly trained athletes, but the trajectory is not fixed. At age 63, participants in this general population cohort retained about 65% of peak aerobic capacity and muscular endurance, while prior data cited by the authors suggest master endurance athletes of the same age can retain more than 80%. That comparison comes from separate athlete studies, so it should not be interpreted as proof that training alone explains the entire gap.
Peak performance may come earlier than most people realize, but the rate of decline remains meaningfully associated with physical activity.
