QLD Skin Check Services

At QLD Skin Check Services, we provide comprehensive skin cancer detection, monitoring, and treatment services using advanced digital imaging technology and evidence-based care.

Digital Full Body Skin Check
A thorough head-to-toe skin examination using digital dermoscopy to assess moles, freckles, and other skin lesions. This detailed assessment helps identify suspicious changes early and supports ongoing skin health monitoring.

Spot Check
Focused assessment of one or more specific lesions that are new, changing, or causing concern. Digital dermoscopy allows for detailed examination and informed management recommendations.

Mole Mapping
Advanced photographic documentation and digital dermoscopic imaging of moles across the body. Mole mapping enables accurate monitoring of existing lesions over time and assists in the early detection of new or changing lesions, particularly for patients at increased risk of skin cancer.

Removal of Benign Lesions
Safe and effective removal of benign skin lesions, including skin tags, seborrhoeic keratoses, and other non-cancerous growths. Treatment options are tailored to the lesion type and individual patient needs.

Precancerous Lesion Treatment
Assessment and treatment of precancerous skin lesions, such as actinic keratoses, to reduce the risk of progression to skin cancer. A range of treatment options are available based on the lesion characteristics and patient preferences.

🔎 What is Dermoscopy?

Dermoscopy is a non-invasive diagnostic technique that allows healthcare professionals to examine skin lesions using a specialised handheld device called a dermatoscope. This tool magnifies and illuminates the skin, revealing structures and patterns beneath the surface that are not visible to the naked eye.

🩺 Why is Postgraduate Training in Dermoscopy Important?

While a dermatoscope is a valuable tool, accurate interpretation requires specialised education and ongoing practice. Postgraduate training in dermoscopy helps clinicians:

✔️ Improve the early detection of skin cancers, including melanoma
✔️ Differentiate benign lesions from suspicious lesions more accurately
✔️ Enhance patient confidence and clinical decision-making
✔️ Stay up to date with evolving evidence-based diagnostic criteria

Research has consistently shown that clinicians with formal dermoscopy training achieve higher diagnostic accuracy than those relying on visual examination alone.

👩‍⚕️ Who Should Be Trained in Dermoscopy?

Dermoscopy training is valuable for healthcare professionals involved in skin assessment, including:

• General Practitioners (GPs)
• Skin Cancer Doctors
• Dermatologists
• General and Plastic Surgeons involved in skin lesion management
• Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses working in skin cancer services
• Rural and Remote Clinicians who frequently assess skin lesions

❓ How Do I Know if My Doctor Has Dermoscopy Training?

Patients have every right to ask about their clinician’s qualifications and experience. Consider asking:

• Have you completed formal dermoscopy training?
• Do you hold a certificate, diploma, or advanced qualification in dermoscopy or skin cancer medicine?
• Do you regularly use a dermatoscope when examining skin lesions?
• Do you participate in ongoing professional development in skin cancer detection?

Many clinicians proudly display their qualifications on their clinic website, professional profiles, or consultation room.

🌞 Early detection saves lives. Choosing a clinician with appropriate training in dermoscopy can play an important role in the accurate assessment and management of skin lesions.

⚠️ Educational Purposes Only ⚠️

Many skin cancers can be subtle and difficult to identify with the naked eye. Some lesions may look harmless but reveal concerning features when examined with dermoscopy and specialist training.

In the image below, several lesions show features that may raise concern for conditions such as melanoma, basal cell carcinoma (BCC), or other skin cancers. Some are pigmented, some are pink, some are ulcerated, and some are deceptively subtle.

This is why a comprehensive skin examination by a practitioner with advanced training in skin cancer detection can be so important.

🔍 What we look for:
• Asymmetry
• Multiple colours
• Irregular structures
• Ulceration or bleeding
• Blue-grey pigmentation
• Regression patterns
• Vascular clues invisible to the naked eye

Early detection can make a significant difference to treatment outcomes.

Your GP plays a vital role in healthcare, but when it comes to suspicious skin lesions, a dedicated skin cancer specialist can provide an additional level of expertise and reassurance.
