Yesterday, I attended a retreat, and something unexpected came up for me.
Even now, there are moments when I still wonder if it was somehow my fault.
I’ve only felt this a handful of times since Hawaiki was born, but yesterday the feelings of guilt and blame quietly surfaced again.
The truth is, I know in my head that I am not responsible for what happened.
But sometimes our hearts hold onto things our minds have already made peace with.
Maybe I’ve become so good at surviving that I learnt to tuck some emotions away and keep moving forward.
And maybe I’m not the only one.
If you’re a medically complex mum, I have a feeling you’ve sat with these thoughts too, even if you’ve never said them out loud.
So today, I’d love you to comment below with one word:
“Me.”
Not for me.
For the mum reading the comments with tears in her eyes, wondering if she’s the only one carrying guilt she never deserved.

The child asking for help should never become the problem.
When the child being hurt is the one who gets moved, isolated or ignored, we have to ask ourselves if we’re addressing the right behaviour.
Our children deserve better.
Have you seen this happen in your child’s school?

One of the biggest mistakes I see is focusing on the handwriting itself without looking at the skills that support it.
Many children are trying incredibly hard.
They’re just being asked to perform a skill their body isn’t quite ready for yet.
When we build the foundations first, handwriting often becomes much less frustrating for everyone involved.
Has handwriting ever been a challenge for your child?
