Mamta doesn't ask patients with persistent pain to push through. When pain's been around a while, being told to exercise can feel dismissive, or even frightening — so she starts gently, on your terms. 🤍
With persistent pain, the early goal isn't to push through. It's to help your body feel safe to move again, and to build from there.
Where we usually begin:
✔️ movement that feels manageable, not threatening
✔️ understanding how persistent pain works, so it feels less mysterious
✔️ small, steady progressions you can actually sustain
✔️ a physiotherapist guiding the pace the whole way
Over time, that steady approach rebuilds confidence, capacity and trust in your body, which is where real change with chronic pain comes from.

Performance season is exciting, but it's also when dancers pick up the most injuries. A few simple habits can protect your body through the busiest stretch. 🩰
🛌 Protect recovery, because sleep and rest days are when your body adapts
💧 Fuel and hydrate properly across long rehearsal days
🔥 Warm up properly before you dance, every single time
🧊 Don't push through sharp or lingering pain, get it checked early
💪 Keep up your strength work, even when time is tight
None of these are complicated, but together they make a real difference to finishing the season strong rather than injured.
📍 If something's already niggling, book a dance assessment with our team in Leichhardt or Newtown through the link in our bio.
“But the injury has healed… so why am I STILL in pain?”
If you’ve ever wondered this, you’re definitely not alone.
Persistent pain isn’t always a sign that something is still damaged.
Your nervous system, sensitivity, movement patterns, stress, sleep, and previous injury can all influence how pain is experienced.
The good news? Pain can change.
Understanding why your pain persists is often the first step towards changing it.

I won! The Outstanding Allied Health Professional award at the Patients' Choice Awards by Patients Australia.
It felt significant to represent allied health in that room. We are the professions people see week after week, in their own suburbs, often for years, and that continuity is one of the most valued assets in Australian healthcare.
Reflecting on my own journey: from patient-facing clinician, to starting three clinics from scratch, to mentoring other clinicians, and now coaching allied health practices globally on how to run sustainable businesses.
What was strikingly clear last night was across different disciplines, we are operating under the same belief, that healthcare should be united, non-fragmented and preventative.
Be it specialists, medicals, or allied health, we feel the restraints when our models are not designed to make that work possible. Which makes me think theres a real opportunity to think together and learn from each other.
Policy makers do the work at the top, while change happens from the ground up, within our networks and businesses. The division is no longer serving us, because right now we are each sitting at the extreme end of our own model, feeling the same frustrations from opposite directions. Doctors can’t provide that care with 15 mins consult, and allied health might be too generous and giving and the practices aren’t sustainable to run.
Thank you to Patients Australia, to my team, my mentors, and most of all to the patients who nominated and voted. Your recognition and support is invaluable.

How to reduce chronic pain flare-ups this winter...
(without stopping movement)
We see the same pattern every year.
As the weather changes, people managing:
chronic pain,
fibromyalgia,
hypermobility,
osteoarthritis,
osteoporosis,
endometriosis,
and persistent injuries
often notice their symptoms start increasing again.
But winter itself usually isn’t the problem.
What changes is:
→ movement consistency
→ daily activity levels
→ load tolerance
→ stiffness after rest
→ nervous system sensitivity
And over time, the body becomes less tolerant to load.
This is why we focus on proactive care at Movement Lab, not just reacting once pain has already flared.
Because:
• movement builds capacity
• load tolerance can be trained
• consistency matters more than intensity
• pain is rarely the problem, it’s the output!
The goal isn’t to stop moving.
It’s to help your body keep tolerating movement well.
If your pain keeps coming back every winter, there’s usually a reason behind it.
Address the pattern, not just the symptoms 🤍
