Itโ€™s the pigment behind your skinโ€™s colour.

Melanin is produced by specialised cells called melanocytes. It helps give your ๐˜€๐—ธ๐—ถ๐—ป, ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ฟ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ฒ๐˜†๐—ฒ๐˜€ their colour, and it also helps protect your skin from UV radiation.

So when we talk about pigmentation, melanin is at the heart of the story.

And understanding melanin is an important first step in understanding what happens in vitiligo.

**What if your skin was a pigment factory?**

Think of melanocytes as the tiny workers responsible for producing, the pigment that gives your skin its colour.

In vitiligo, the immune system mistakenly targets these cells, disrupting pigment production in affected areas.

This simple factory metaphor helps explain whatโ€™s happening beneath the skin, and why understanding vitiligo matters.
Because itโ€™s more than just a change in skin colour.

**Vitiligo doesnโ€™t define you. Understanding it can empower your journey.**

โ€œWhat happened to your skin?โ€

Sometimes you want to explain.
Sometimes you don't.
And both are okay.

You might say:
โ€œI have vitiligo. It's a condition that causes loss of pigment.โ€
Or:
โ€œIt's called vitiligo. Have you ever heard of it?โ€
Or simply:
โ€œI'd rather not talk about it, thanks.โ€

You don't owe anyone an explanation.

Your skin is yours. Your story is yours. And you get to decide how much you want to share.

10/08/2026

Itโ€™s not โ€œjust a skin condition.โ€

Vitiligo can change what you see in the mirror, but the emotional impact can go much deeper.
It can mean worrying about being judged.

Feeling self-conscious in photographs.
Hiding your skin.
Explaining that it isnโ€™t contagious.
Or simply wondering how other people see you.

And sometimes, the hardest part is the part nobody else can see.

But vitiligo doesnโ€™t take away your worth, your beauty, or your right to feel comfortable in your own skin.

Because your skin is part of your story.
It isnโ€™t the whole story.

Segmental VS Non-Segmental- A deep dive:

Let's talk about the two main types of vitiligo, and why knowing the difference is a GAME CHANGER.

Segmental is like a sprinter. Shows up fast, then stops.

Non-segmental is the marathon runner. Keeps showing up unpredictably.

Why does this matter? Because treatments work differently for each type. Knowing your type means not wasting time on what won't work for you.

Which type do you have? Or did you just learn something new? ๐Ÿ‘‡

Welcome to our August Education Series: Understanding Vitiligo.

Throughout this month, we'll be exploring the science behind vitiligo, answering common questions, debunking myths, and sharing practical tips to help you better understand the condition.

Why does skin suddenly lose its colour?

If you've recently been diagnosed with vitiligo, you're probably asking a lot of questions.

The most important thing to know is this: vitiligo is not contagious, and it isn't caused by anything you did.

Vitiligo is an autoimmune condition where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the cells responsible for producing skin pigment (melanocytes). This results in patches of skin losing their natural colour.

Every person's journey with vitiligo is unique, but understanding the condition is the first step towards managing it with confidence.

Swipe through the reel to learn:
โ€ข What vitiligo is
โ€ข Why it happens
โ€ข Who it can affect
โ€ข Common myths vs facts

Can vitiligo spread?

It's one of the questions we're asked most of, and the answer is different for everyone.

Some people remain stable for years, while others may notice new patches develop over time. In some cases, skin injury, illness, or severe sunburn may trigger new areas.

The most important thing to remember is that there's no set timeline. Every vitiligo journey is unique.

Have you experienced changes over time, or has your vitiligo remained stable? Share your experience in the comments, we'd love to hear from you.
