It’s okay to try a different loctician!

I recently had this lovely lady come in who wasn’t happy with the work she’d had done by her previous loctician.

And it got me thinking about something I feel is really important to talk about…

You don’t have to stay with a loctician just because you’ve been going to them for a while.

If you’re not happy with how your locs are looking, if your maintenance isn’t lasting, or if something just doesn’t feel right, it’s absolutely okay to ask questions, get a second opinion or try someone new.

Every loctician has different techniques, experience and ways of working. What works for one person might not necessarily work for you.

You should feel comfortable asking questions about what’s being done to your hair, why it’s being done and what you can expect from your maintenance.

And if you’re not getting the results you’re after, it’s okay to speak up!

This isn’t about putting down another loctician. It’s about finding someone whose work, techniques and approach suit you and your loc journey.

Your locs are a big investment of both time and money, and you deserve to feel confident in the person looking after them.

Sometimes it takes trying a few different locticians before you find the right fit, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

At the end of the day, they’re YOUR locs. You should love them!

I’ve kept it supportive of the client without criticising the previous loctician. It also reinforces that clients have every right to question the quality of work they’re paying for, which is a great message for your business.

New Dreadlock Creation 💫

My client has very fine hair, especially towards the ends. We opted for a blunt end dreadlock for that cleaner look, the downside of this is losing a little more length when creating the dreadlock.

My client enjoys surfing so it won’t be long before this mature into a great set of natural looking dreadlocks! We will be sure to share the journey with you over the coming years!

These two photos are the same client on the creation day of two seperate loc journeys. The one on the left was by another Loctician and the one of the right was by me.

These creations, whilst on the same head of hair will result in two very different looking dreadlocks as they mature. My client wanted thinner dreads and going by the texture of her hair I knew I had to make them as thin as possible as this type hair texture does thicken a lot during the maturing process.

The creation on the left resulted in quite thick locs that my client wasn’t happy with and resulted in her brushing them out and starting her loc journey again.

The intention of this post is not to call out anyone’s work - it’s to share with people that it’s important to find a Loctician who understands hair texture, understands how your locs will mature over time, takes into consideration your lifestyle and time commitment for at home care and does a thorough consult to discuss your expectations and the dreadlock look you’re wanting to achieve.
