Facials are one of the gentlest, most relaxing ways to look after your skin, and they're a lovely place to start if you're new to the clinic.

At The Age-Well Room I use two cosmeceutical ranges I really trust: Waterlily, a Brisbane brand, and SpaCeuticals. "Cosmeceutical" simply means professional skincare with active ingredients, so the facial is about more than a nice hour (although it is that too).

Every facial is tailored to your skin on the day. Depending on what's going on, it may help skin that feels dry, dull or a little stressed. A facial won't replace medical advice for an ongoing skin condition, and I'll always suggest seeing your GP or a dermatologist if that's what you need.

With summer on its way, we'll also chat about simple home care and daily SPF. Our Sunshine Coast sun is no joke!

The Pelvic Floor Chair, explained 🌿

Pelvic floor health isn't something many of us feel comfortable talking about, so let's start with the basics.

The Pelvic Floor Chair is a seated treatment that uses electromagnetic technology to work with the muscles of the pelvic floor. At your consultation I'll explain how it works, what a session involves, and answer any questions you have, in a private, relaxed space.

There's no pressure to book anything on the day. You're welcome to come in, ask questions and take your time.

As we start a new week, I'd love to properly introduce myself and the clinic. I'm Rebecca, owner of The Age-Well Room. I grew up in Berkshire, and these days I'm lucky to call the Sunshine Coast home.

I opened The Age-Well Room as a calm, unhurried space for adults who want thoughtful, honest support with their skin, their pelvic floor health or body treatments. No pressure, no hard sell, just a proper conversation about what you'd like help with and what's realistic for you.

As the Australian trainer for Plasma Pen, I get lots of questions about it, so here's an honest overview to end the week.

What it is:
Plasma Pen is a fibroblast treatment. It creates tiny, controlled points of plasma energy just above the skin's surface. These form small carbon crusts, and the skin's natural healing response then gets to work.

What it may help with:
Depending on your skin, it may help soften the look of fine lines and crepey or loose-looking skin in areas such as around the eyes, the upper lip and the neck.

What it can't do:
• It isn't a facelift or a substitute for surgery
• Results vary from person to person and develop gradually, so I can't promise a particular outcome
• It isn't suitable for everyone. Skin type, health history and some medications all matter

What to expect:
There is downtime. Small crusts usually form and need to be left alone to fall away naturally, often over roughly a week, and some swelling is common, especially around the eyes. Aftercare and sun protection are really important, particularly with our Sunshine Coast sun.

That's why every Plasma Pen treatment starts with a proper consultation. We'll look at your skin and talk through whether it's a sensible option for you, or whether something else might suit you better.

Let's talk pelvic floors. Over a cup of tea, of course ☕

Pelvic floor health is something many of us quietly put up with rather than talk about. So here are a few myths I hear often in clinic:

❌ "It's only a women's issue."
Not at all. Men have pelvic floors too, and I see both women and men for pelvic floor chair sessions.

❌ "Leaking a little is just part of getting older or having children."
It's common, but that doesn't mean you have to simply accept it. It's worth getting support.

❌ "The chair does all the work, so I can forget my exercises."
The chair can be a helpful addition, but it isn't a replacement for medical advice or a programme from a pelvic health physio. They often work well alongside each other.

❌ "It must be awkward or uncomfortable."
You stay fully clothed and simply sit on the chair for the session. Most people describe a tingling or tapping sensation.

Everyone's body is different, so I can't promise particular results. What I can do is explain honestly how the chair works, whether it's a sensible option for you, and when it would be better to see your GP or a physio first.
