When clients come in with cuticles like this, especially if you’re new, it can feel stressful. You don’t know where to start — and that’s normal.The key is not to panic, but to understand what you’re dealing with💋

Rubbery cuticles, very thick skin, inflammation, or dry cuticles stuck tightly to the nail.In this case, the cuticle is dry and strongly attached. You can already see cracking moving toward the proximal fold — this is where control matters more than speed.

Start gently from the lower point of the lateral fold and work upward toward the proximal fold. If it doesn’t lift enough on the first pass, that’s okay. Work step by step until you create a clean, safe pocket. Technique over force, always.
I prefer a metal pusher here, followed by a safe flame bit and scissors. This helps avoid over-filing and reduces the risk of bleeding.
Important reminder: it’s always better to under-cut than to over-cut. Healthy, healed cuticles make your next manicure easier and far more comfortable for your client.
