Mo the saltwater crocodile, sunning himself on the bank of the Daintree River in Kuku Yalanji Country. Mo is named for the Mowbray River further south, where he previously had his territory, but he’s recently moved up the coast to the Daintree.

A dramatic Daintree sunrise, from Myall Beach just south of Cape Tribulation on Kuku YalanjI Country in tropical North Queensland this morning. The change in photography conditions was about as dramatic as I’ve ever experienced, since up to about a minute before I took this photo there was no hint of any colour in the clouds, and five minutes before that I was standing in the rain wondering what on Earth I was doing to myself.

As a start, here’s a rainforest waterhole at the base of the Macalister Range, just west of Cairns.

I took advantage of the rainy weather for a quick stroll in the Dandenongs, in Wurundjeri WoI Wurrung Country (and by ‘quick stroll’ I really mean ‘grab my camera and scramble up the nearest walking track where the low cloud was sitting on the mountain’).

With the recent wet weather in Melbourne last weekend seemed like the perfect time to check out the (relatively) recently reopened Olinda Falls track in Dandenong Ranges National Park, in Wurundjeri Country east of Melbourne, and I was not disappointed!

Unlike the nearby Mount Eadley Stoney, which has the classic cuesta shape of a long Lee slope ending in abrupt cliffs (think Gariwerd/the Grampians or Ikara/the Flinders Ranges) the Bluff has a rounded summit plateau that makes for great camping, ringed by massive north and north west facing cliffs - a combination which makes for fantastic walking and camping.
