Did you know that muscles are the only tissue in the body that have the ability to contract and relax? When muscles become tight and "knotted", it can cause pain and restrict movement. Myotherapy can help to alleviate this pain and increase range of motion by applying pressure and myofascial release techniques to the affected muscles and tissue, allowing them to relax and function properly. Regular Myotherapy sessions can also help to prevent future muscle tension and pain.

When it comes to pain and injury, it's important to remember that treating the symptoms is only a temporary fix. To truly heal and prevent future issues, it's crucial to find the root cause of the problem.

Symptoms such as pain, stiffness, and weakness are often just the tip of the iceberg. There may be underlying issues, such as muscle imbalances, poor posture, or a previous injury, that are causing the problem. By focusing only on treating the symptoms, these underlying issues are left unaddressed and can lead to chronic pain and a cycle of re-injury.

Pain is not always directly linked to a physical injury. In fact, pain can persist even after an injury has healed, or can be experienced in the absence of any visible injury. This is because pain is a complex experience that involves both physical and psychological factors.

One key concept in pain science is the understanding that pain is not just a sensation, but a protective response to potential harm. Pain is the body's way of telling us that something is wrong and needs attention. However, sometimes this response can become overactive and persist even when there is no longer any threat to the body.

Another important concept in pain science is the role of the brain in pain perception. The brain plays a critical role in interpreting and responding to pain signals. Factors such as stress, anxiety, and depression can change the way the brain processes pain signals, leading to an increase in pain perception.

It's also important to note that pain can be caused by a variety of factors, including nerve irritation, inflammation, and emotional stress. This means that pain can be experienced in conditions such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and irritable bowel syndrome where there is no clear structural or pathological cause.

In conclusion, pain is a complex experience that is not always directly linked to a physical injury. Understanding the various factors that contribute to pain can help individuals to better manage their pain and improve their overall quality of life.

Dry needling is a technique used by Myotherapists to release muscle tension and alleviate pain. It involves the use of thin needles that are inserted into trigger points in the muscle. The needle causes a local twitch response, which can help to release the muscle and reduce pain. Dry needling can be used to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions such as back pain, headaches, and sports injuries. It can also help to improve range of motion and increase muscle function. The procedure is relatively painless and it's a effective way to treat chronic pain.

Working in an office or studying can mean long hours hunched over, sitting and not moving. Unfortunately these habits overtime can really start to cause some havoc in the body.

Movement is so integral to our overall health and discomfort management so we recommend trying to take a break from your desk at least every hour even if it’s just to get up and walk to the printer and back. Lower back and neck pain complaints are huge in the Myotherapy clinic so we thought you might like to try some of these simple stretches that can be done at your desk to help prevent ni**les and discomfort from repetitive postures.

Give these ago periodically and see if it makes a difference…it’s a nice excuse to get paid to move too😉
