Ar**la restoration tattoo following mastectomy and DIEP flap reconstruction. The first photo is before, and the second is straight after her session, so the redness and shine are completely normal at this stage and will settle as it heals.
After everything she’s been through, it was such a privilege to help return this part of her. If you’ve finished treatment, reconstruction surgery and are wondering whether this is an option for you, please reach out for a complimentary consultation.

One of the most common questions we hear partway through restorative needling (inkless tattoo) is why the scar suddenly looks wider. It can feel like a step backwards, but it’s usually a sign the treatment is doing exactly what it should.
Scar tissue is dense and tightly packed, which is what gives many scars their crisp, defined edges. Each session works to break that tissue down, and as it loosens, the edges soften and blur into the surrounding skin. That softer, more diffuse edge is what reads as wider.
Reducing that dense tissue matters for colour too. It gives melanocytes, the cells responsible for pigment, room to move back in and help restore colour over time. In this client’s case you can already see colour coming forward after a single session, though every scar responds at its own pace.
We’ll always talk you through what to expect at each stage of treatment, particularly with what can feel like an adverse reaction as the ultimate goal is to create a smooth, informed treatment journey.

I always come back to this healed facelift camouflage before and after. 1 restorative needling session, followed by 3 camouflage pigment sessions spaced 6 weeks apart is what contributed to the above before and after.
I really am so deeply grateful for the trust and expression I am able to have with my clients and this line of work.

Colour matching is where every pigment camouflage treatment begins. Prior to tattooing, we mix and test shades directly beside the scar in natural light so we can see how each one sits against the client’s own skin.
The next two slides explain what we’re actually looking for when we do this, and why it shapes the way we tattoo.
When we assess skin we’re looking at two things; overtone vs undertone. The overtone is the surface colour you notice first, how light or deep the skin is, while the undertone is the hue sitting underneath it, which can be warm, cool, neutral or olive.
Scar tissue often loses some of both, which is why it can look pink, white or silvery against the surrounding skin. If we only matched the overtone, the treated area could heal looking flat or ashy, so getting the undertone right is what allows it to blend back in with the skin around it.
This photo was taken straight after treatment, so the redness you can see is completely normal and settles as the skin heals. Rather than trying to achieve the final colour in one appointment, we build on the base value noting overtone gradually over multiple sessions.
Pigment softens as it settles into the skin, and working this way means we can look at the healed result each time, adjust the shade if needed and keep the outcome natural and controlled.

“Titanium dioxide is bad” discourse is so tiring.
Titanium dioxide (CI 77891) is one of the most extensively studied pigments in use today. It is an inert, insoluble mineral pigment, the same one found in mineral sunscreens, and it forms the base of most skin tone pigments used in camouflage tattooing.
In paramedical work, it is not optional. Scar tissue often heals paler and denser than the surrounding skin, and titanium dioxide provides the light-reflecting base that allows a skin tone to hold over it.
Yes, it has limitations such as stability in structure, unforgiving when over-saturated, and it can darken under laser removal. But every one of these is known, explainable and avoidable.
When camouflage heals yellow, ashy or overly visible, the cause is almost always the colour match, saturation or depth, not the chemistry. Blaming an ingredient is easier than addressing a global gap in training.
If you are considering camouflage, ask your artist or educator:
• How is my colour match formulated?
• What level of saturation will you use?
• What depth does my skin require?
The negative discourse is tiring, the ingredient is not.

There’s a trend going around called the opt out list (contrary to the opt in) where people are naming the beauty standard propaganda they’ve stopped falling for, so here is the paramedical tattoo edition from Resolute Repair’s perspective.
An opt out list of the lines this industry keeps repeating that I won’t be repeating to you.
Before and after one session of Inkless Stretchmark Revision anticipating a sequence of 3-4 sessions for optimal results.

Self-care looks different for everyone. Sometimes it's restoring colour to features that have faded. Sometimes it's enhancing what's already there so you feel more like yourself again.
This isn't about changing you. It's about supporting you in feeling confident in your own skin, whatever that looks like.
When you've spent years putting everyone else first, taking a few hours to prioritise yourself isn't silly. It's necessary.
