The hardest part of owning a cosmetic nursing business? It’s not actually the nursing.
Somewhere along the way, being a good cosmetic nurse became less about clinical knowledge, experience, patient care and ethical practice… and more about how many likes you got on your video twerking in the stock room.
And I find that incredibly frustrating.
I am a Registered Nurse who has spent years developing my clinical skills and undertaking further education to provide safe, individualised treatments.
We didn’t do modules on graphic design, videography, social media marketing or how to track an algorithm.
Yet somehow, running a cosmetic nursing business comes with the expectation that you should excel at all of those areas too… while navigating strict advertising regulations.
The irony?
The qualifications, clinical experience and professional responsibilities that should distinguish a cosmetic nurse are often the hardest things to communicate online while remaining captivating.
A beautifully curated Instagram feed doesn’t demonstrate clinical competence.
Thousands of followers don’t necessarily equate to thousands of happy patients.
Being confident in front of a camera doesn’t automatically make someone competent or ethical in a treatment room.
I respect and admire practitioners who manage both exceptionally well, but social media popularity shouldn’t be the benchmark for clinical excellence.
As a small business owner, I’m the nurse, receptionist, cleaner, stock controller, bookkeeper, after-hours admin… and apparently the entire marketing department too. 😂
And sometimes, it’s exhausting, when this is the expectation on us but we aren’t able to spend thousands on social media management. Personally, I’d rather spend that on expanding treatment options.
To my beautiful clients who support my little business, recommend me to others and trust me with their care, thank you. Your word-of-mouth recommendations will always mean more than a viral post. ❤️
With kindness,

✨ LET’S TALK INJECTABLES MYTHS, MISCONCEPTIONS & A LITTLE REALITY CHECK. ✨
The aesthetics industry has changed enormously over the years, but one thing hasn’t changed: patients deserve honesty, transparency and education.
Unfortunately, navigating the world of cosmetic treatments has become increasingly complicated for patients AND practitioners.
Swipe through to unpack some of the common myths surrounding cosmetic injectables ➡️
🥀 NOT EVERYTHING THAT GLITTERS IS GOLD.
The aesthetics industry is a business, but it is also healthcare.
Sometimes, I worry that the commercial side of this industry overshadows the ethical responsibilities we have to our patients. There should never be more emphasis on selling a treatment than determining whether that treatment is actually appropriate.
Not every concern needs an injectable solution. Not every patient needs more volume. Sometimes, the most ethical treatment decision is to recommend absolutely nothing.
Your face isn’t a sales target, and your treatment plan shouldn’t be either.
🥀 SO MANY PRODUCTS, SO LITTLE CLARITY.
The cosmetic market is constantly evolving.
New products, technologies, formulations and treatment techniques seem to emerge every other week. Even for experienced practitioners, keeping up with the evidence, understanding which products address particular concerns and separating genuine clinical advancements from clever marketing requires ongoing education.
It’s also critical to note that just because something is new, expensive or trending doesn’t automatically make it better.
The right product matters. But the right practitioner, assessment and clinical judgement matter more.
🥀 LET’S TALK ABOUT THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM.
In Australia, the regulatory environment surrounding cosmetic injectables has become increasingly restrictive.
For practitioners, discussing treatments publicly can feel like navigating a minefield. The distinction between education and advertising isn’t always straightforward, and the potential consequences of non-compliance, including significant fines and professional disciplinary action, are serious.

Muscle Harmonisation 🤍
When we talk about facial harmony, we’re talking about so much more than simply adding volume to create balance on a superficial level.
Sometimes, what presents aesthetically is actually influenced by muscle activity, asymmetry, tension or an underlying functional concern. A considered treatment plan starts with understanding why something is occurring rather than simply treating what we can see by adding volume.
For this beautiful patient, our approach has focused on muscle harmonisation: working with facial movement and function using conservative, non-surgical interventions to create a more balanced smile appearance while still looking completely like her.
As a Registered Nurse, I love that aesthetic medicine can extend beyond appearance. Thoughtful assessment may allow us to address functional concerns while supporting facial balance, confidence and self-esteem.
It’s not always about adding more. Sometimes, it’s about understanding the face, the muscles and how they work together.
Individual results and treatment suitability vary. Consultation and clinical assessment are required before treatment.

✨ REAL RESULTS | LASER TATTOO REMOVAL ✨
Five sessions. One very faded anchor. ⚓️
This is a real Coco Rouge client result after 5 sessions of laser tattoo removal using Q-Switched laser technology.
Q-Switched technology delivers short, high energy pulses of laser light designed to target tattoo pigment. The pigment is gradually fragmented into smaller particles, which the body can progressively clear over time.
What I love about tattoo removal is watching the ink become lighter and lighter with each stage of the process, but it’s important to remember that every tattoo responds differently.
Results and the number of sessions required can vary depending on factors including:
✨ Ink colour and density
✨ Depth and quality of the tattoo
✨ Age of the tattoo
✨ Skin type
✨ Location on the body
✨ Individual response to treatment
This result is after 5 sessions — and we’re not finished yet.
Laser tattoo removal is a process, not an overnight fix, and your treatment plan is individually assessed at Coco Rouge.

There’s something extra special about receiving a message like this. 🥹🤍
As a small business owner for almost a decade, I know I’ll never take for granted the fact that someone has left my clinic feeling happy enough with their experience to go home and tell their friends or family, “You have to go and see her.”
There are so many ways you can support a small business, but recommending me to someone you care about is one of the biggest compliments you could give.
Every referral, every recommendation and every person who walks through my doors because a friend trusted me enough to send them my way doesn’t go unnoticed.
Coco Rouge is a small one woman business, built client by client, recommendation by recommendation, and I’m incredibly grateful to every single person who has helped it grow. 🤍
Thank you for trusting me with your care, and for trusting me enough to recommend that same care to the people you love.
