A little unsure before your first curly appointment? That’s completely normal.

We see clients all the time who aren’t quite sure what to ask for, what their curls need, or what to expect from the appointment.

You don’t need to come in knowing your curl type, your perfect routine or exactly what cut you want.

The main thing we ask is that you arrive with your hair washed, dry and in its natural state, as outlined in your appointment email. This allows us to see how your curls naturally sit before we begin.

From there, we’ll talk through what you’re wanting, look at what your hair is doing now and create a plan together.

Our appointments are relaxed, collaborative and designed to help you leave understanding your hair a little better than when you walked in.

If your curls feel dry, coated or difficult to style, it could be time to look at what’s inside your products.

Some silicones can build up on the hair, leaving curls feeling coated and preventing moisture from properly penetrating.

Harsh sulphates can then strip away too much of the hair’s natural oils, leaving curls feeling dry, rough or frizzy.

Why do we ask you to arrive with your curls clean, completely dry and styled as you normally wear them?

Because your natural curl pattern tells us so much.

Before we begin cutting, we look at:

• How each curl naturally sits
• Where your hair holds weight
• How much shrinkage you experience
• Your overall shape and balance
• Areas that need more volume or support

If your hair is tied back, stretched out or still wet, we can’t clearly see how your curls behave in everyday life.
Because we cut the hair dry, we need to see how your hair behaves on a day to day basis.

Arriving with your curls styled gives us the best starting point to create a shape that works with your hair, not against it.
