Welcome to our AHC member spotlight... Beyond the Chair.

Who: Simone Aberon
Where: Apotecari | Sydney, NSW

🌟 What inspired you to pursue a career in the hair industry?
I wanted to be a hair stylist from a young age, starting as a Saturday girl in a salon at 16. But after discovering naturopathy, I became fascinated by nutrition, natural medicine and how the body works from within. Years later, after a chemical disaster damaged my own hair, I turned my focus back to hair, studying trichology to understand the science behind hair and scalp health. In many ways, I came full circle, returning to where I started with a deeper understanding of hair from both a cosmetic and clinical perspective. 🌿
🌟 One piece of advice for someone starting out in hairdressing?
Embrace the chemistry and science of it. If you can nail that, the world is your oyster. 🔬
🌟 What’s your go-to song or playlist that gets you in the zone while working in the salon?
90s R & B will always be a winner for me! 🕺🏻
🌟 Fun fact people might not know?
I’m a budding potter, having discovered ceramics three years ago as a way to relax, practise mindfulness and get creative. Now my home is filled with handmade pieces that bring me joy every day. You’ll usually find me at my local pottery school in the Bondi Pavilion on Saturday mornings, followed by a dip in the ocean. 🌊
🌟 Top tip to stay motivated during busy or tough times?
Hire the best and delegate often. I need space to think strategically and creatively, and I can’t do that if I’m trying to do everything. I love a good to-do list, but I’ve learned to triage it during busy times - prioritising the things that will genuinely move the needle for the business. 👏
🌟 What do you know now that you wish you’d known earlier?
Don't be afraid of taking big risks, but equally do your homework. 💯
🌟 What key lesson have you learnt that transformed your business or mindset?
Learning which metrics matter, understanding our numbers and reviewing them daily has been transformative. I used to shy away from the data because it felt confusing and fragmented, but now I have clarity and can focus much more easily on what truly matters to the business. ✔️
🌟 What do you love about being part of AHC?
As a professional-grade collection, and hair salons as our only retail presence, it's always been important to me to give back to the industry that supports us. 🙌

grabbed the mic and asked some of our attendees what they really thought of Leadership Summit before everyone headed upstairs to Schmoozefest.

A reminder of how good it is to have this many industry legends in the same room 🙌🏻

Some of our members sat down at Hair Fest and shared what their AHC membership means to them. It was a proper moment of gratitude for us.

Helen Owens, Tigerlamb
Justin Pace, Pace & Co
Rebecca Anderson, Becky B Hair
Daniel Di Iorio, DIIORIO

The belief that these people (and all of our members) put in us and what we do for this industry never goes to waste. We really feel your support.

There’s still so much work to be done. But knowing our members are behind us? That’s what keeps us at it. Thank you. ❤️

Leadership Summit & Schmoozefest photos are LIVE on the website!

Leadership Summit is business up front: big ideas, and big conversations that help shape where this industry is heading. Then the sun went down and Schmoozefest did what Schmoozefest does best - Drinks flowing, good vibes, new connections made and old friendships picked up right where they left off.

We can't emphasise this enough: events like this don't happen without you. The support from our members and community is what makes days (and nights) like this possible, and we don't take a second of it for granted.

Go have a squiz through the gallery, and if you spot yourself, download it, post it, and tag us so we can share it far and wide!

The last few weeks have been a reminder of just how lucky we are to have this community. To everyone who came along, took part, jumped on stage, and to those who’ve taken the time to share feedback since, thank you.

Your messages have all echoed the same thing. There’s something special about being in a room built purely around connection, community and genuine value. As a not for profit, that’s always been our intention. Every speaker, every panel, every session is there to give you something real to take back to your salon, your team, your career.

None of it happens without the people who support us. Our sponsors, our partners, our members and every person who shows up year after year. We feel so grateful and so lucky to have you in our corner!

We’ll be back next year, bigger and better. Early birds are anticipated to drop in November, so watch this space. 👀

Thank you for being here. This community is everything 🥹

So many of you have told us it was exactly what you needed: real conversations, real connection, and a hit of inspiration to take back to your salons and training rooms.

Thank you to every single person who showed up, spoke up, and made the day what it was. Now go find yourself in the gallery and show off where you were. Tag us when you post so we can reshare!
