Anticipatory nausea can occur before chemotherapy even begins. It is a conditioned response where the body remembers previous treatment experiences and reacts with nausea, anxiety, or discomfort when thinking about or arriving for treatment.

Hypnotherapy can be a helpful supportive therapy for some people.

During hypnotherapy, a trained therapist guides you into a deeply relaxed state and uses focused suggestions to help calm the mind–body response. This may help reduce anxiety, interrupt the nausea cycle, and create a more positive association with treatment.

Many patients report feeling more in control and less distressed before chemotherapy sessions. Hypnotherapy is non-invasive and can be used alongside your medical treatments and prescribed anti-nausea medications.

If anticipatory nausea is affecting you, speak with your oncology team about whether hypnotherapy may be a supportive option.

Nurse Nik had the absolute pleasure of meeting Aarohi and her mum Rupal this morning in Geelong.

After seeing many people affected by cancer on social media, for her 11th birthday she wanted to give something back... Aarohi chose to cut her hair and create a hair donation for .

Her note says it all "Hope this hair brings you as much joy and confidence as it gave me. Please know it was gifted with love, care and compassion, and best wishes for your journey."

Thankyou for making my day, you beautiful little human.

Some chemotherapy drugs can affect the nerves in your hands and feet, causing tingling, numbness, burning, or pain. This is called peripheral neuropathy.

Let your healthcare team know as soon as symptoms start, as early reporting can help prevent worsening.

Wearing well-fitting shoes, protecting hands and feet from extreme temperatures, gentle exercise, and good foot care can help.

Medications and therapies such as physiotherapy or acupuncture may also help manage symptoms and improve comfort during treatment.

Finishing cancer treatment can bring relief, but many people are surprised by the challenges that follow.

Fatigue, fear of recurrence, emotional adjustment, and rebuilding confidence are common parts of survivorship.

Across Australia, support is available through organisations like the Cancer Council, local survivorship programs, peer support groups, and survivorship clinics. Connecting with others who understand can make a big difference.

Survivorship care focuses on helping you regain strength, manage long-term effects, and rebuild life beyond cancer.
