📍 LOOKING 10–15 YEARS AHEAD 🇦🇺
Australia may not be the biggest economy in the world.
The opportunity is different.
Australia has several long-term strengths that align with areas expected to remain important to the global economy including critical minerals, clean energy, technology, healthcare, education and skilled workforce development.
1️⃣ RESOURCES
The Materials Behind the Future
The global transition to electric vehicles, batteries, renewable energy and advanced technologies is increasing the importance of critical minerals such as:
Lithium • Copper • Nickel • Rare Earths • Critical Minerals
Australia has significant geological resources and is developing policies to expand its role not only in mining, but also in processing and value-added industries.
Resources → Investment → Industry → Skills → Jobs
Australia’s Critical Minerals Strategy specifically identifies the sector as important to economic resilience, clean-energy technologies and future skilled employment. (Department of Industry)
2️⃣ ENERGY
Powering the Next Economy
The growth of technology, data centres and advanced industries will increase the importance of reliable and competitive energy.
Australia has strong natural potential in:
Solar • Wind • Battery Storage • Clean Energy
The Australian Government is also prioritising clean energy technologies, green metals, batteries and related manufacturing as part of its Future Made in Australia agenda. (Department of Industry)
This can create opportunities across:
Engineering • Technology • Construction • Infrastructure • Energy • Maintenance
3️⃣ AI & TECHNOLOGY
AI Will Change How We Work
AI is not only about programmers.
It is increasingly being applied across industries such as:
Healthcare → AI
Education → AI
Finance → AI
Mining → AI
Manufacturing → AI
Business → AI
The future workforce will increasingly benefit from combining:
Professional Skills + Digital Skills + AI Skills
Australia’s national science and industry strategies identify science, technology and innovation as important to developing new industries and future jobs. (Department of Industry)
4️⃣ HEALTHCARE
A Long-Term Area of Need
Australia’s population is projected to continue growing while the median age is also expected to increase over the coming decades. (Australian Bureau of Statistics)
This supports ongoing demand for services across areas such as:
Healthcare • Aged Care • Disability Services • Allied Health • Wellness
For students, the important point is not simply choosing an industry.
It is developing recognised qualifications, practical skills, communication skills and relevant experience that can support participation in the workforce.
5️⃣ ASIA-PACIFIC
Australia’s Strategic Position
Australia is geographically connected to one of the world’s most economically important regions.
Its relationships across:
🇨🇳 China
🇮🇳 India
🇯🇵 Japan
🇰🇷 South Korea
🇸🇬 Singapore
🇮🇩 Southeast Asia
create opportunities across:
Trade • Education • Technology • Energy • Resources • Professional Services
Australia’s location, resources and international partnerships are recognised as important advantages for future economic development. (Department of Industry)
6️⃣ EDUCATION
Invest in Skills, Not Just a Qualification
This is where the future economy connects directly with students.
We cannot predict exactly what the job market will look like in 10 or 15 years.
But we can prepare for change by developing skills that can remain relevant.
Instead of asking only:
“What qualification do you have?”
the future workforce increasingly needs to demonstrate:
“What can you actually do?”
That is why a combination of:
Qualification + Practical Skills + English + Digital Skills + Work Experience
can be valuable when building a long-term career.
🎯 WHY START TODAY?
🇦🇺 2026
STUDY & BUILD SKILLS
Learn English
* Gain qualifications
* Build practical skills
* Develop experience
⚡ 2030
ENERGY + CRITICAL MINERALS + HEALTHCARE + TECHNOLOGY
Australia continues developing industries connected to the energy transition, resources, technology and essential services.
🤖 2035
AI + CLEAN ENERGY + ADVANCED INDUSTRY + HEALTHCARE
Technology continues to reshape the way industries operate.
People who combine professional expertise with digital capability may be better positioned to adapt.
🌏 2040+
A CHANGING AUSTRALIAN ECONOMY
Australia has the potential to play an important role in the Asia-Pacific through:
Resources + Energy + Technology + Healthcare + Education + Skilled Workforce
This is an opportunity not a guarantee.
💡 THE MESSAGE
🇦🇺 Australia may not be the biggest economy but it is positioned around many of the areas the world is likely to need in the future.
So don’t just study for today’s job market.
Build skills for tomorrow’s economy.
Study today → Build skills today → Adapt to growing industries → Build your future.
🇦🇺 Your education today can be the foundation for the career you build tomorrow.
Future outcomes depend on individual skills, qualifications, experience, labour-market conditions and applicable visa or professional requirements.
