Motswana citizen Lesedi Molapisi has been released from a Bangladeshi prison, where she was serving a death sentence for drug smuggling.
According to a press release issued by the Office of the President, Molapisi was freed following sustained diplomatic efforts by the Government of Botswana.
Molapisi was arrested on 23rd January 2022 in Dhaka, Bangladesh after being found in possession of narcotics. She was later convicted of a drug smuggling offence and sentenced to death on 27th May 2024 by a Bangladeshi court.
