Live joyfully & age beautifully through yoga, facial techniques and healthy, sustainable lifestyle

A few little moments from July before August takes over. Every summer month feels like a little life of its own.

I’ve been spending a bit of time working on my “11” lines recently. You’ll see a few clips of rollers, Gua Sha, BMS … of course good old hands are fine, it’s just that tools bring variety, and variety can help with consistency.

But tools or no tools, the most powerful anti-ageing habit is happiness. If my forehead could express less worry or concentration and more calm, gratitude and joy, those lines would be less stubborn and easier to soften.

The rest of July looked a bit like this, in no particular order:

* Outdoor yoga with Meeshka in the garden and and at the Lido with Rebecca Taylor.

* Red currants, the berry of my childhood. Tart, refreshing and perfect with a protein-rich meal.

* Long summer evenings when there’s still enough light for a walk after the day’s work is done.

* A seaweed foraging walk with Jersey Walk Adventures - highly recommend if you’d like to learn more about the vegetables of the sea.

* A small face yoga workshop at my studio. I’ve always wanted to come back to teaching in small groups, and it feels exactly right.

* A quiet coffee break on my new studio patio - yes I have a patio now 🌸.

Quite a lot to be grateful about actually. Here’s to whatever August has in store ❤️.

Another one in my SPF series ☀️

This time: SPF 30 vs SPF 50.

At first glance, the difference doesn’t seem that impressive. Applied correctly:

• SPF 30 lets through around 3.3% of UVB rays.
• SPF 50 lets through around 2%.

That’s why people often say, “Well, SPF 30 is basically the same.”

Here’s the catch…Most of us don’t apply enough sunscreen.

The SPF on the bottle is measured using 2 mg of sunscreen per cm² of skin. In real life, most people apply much less than that.

And sunscreen doesn’t work in a simple, linear way. If you apply only half the recommended amount, you do not get half the SPF. The protection drops much more than you’d expect.

That means:

• an under-applied SPF 50 no longer behaves like an SPF 50…
• but an under-applied SPF 30 drops even further, leaving you with much less protection than the number on the bottle suggests.

So if you’re going to be outdoors, at the beach, hiking, gardening, sightseeing, or simply spending a lot of time outside, I’d choose SPF 50. It gives you a bigger safety margin for the inevitable under-application.

And don’t forget the two-finger rule: squeeze a line of sunscreen along your index finger and another along your middle finger. That’s roughly the amount most adults need for the face and neck.

Then reapply every two hours if you’re outdoors, seek shade whenever possible, wear a hat and protective clothing, and enjoy the sunshine safely. ☀️

Hey friends! How are you surviving the British heatwave? Here’s a slightly sped-up segment of a sculpting sequence that is meant for exactly this weather: the strokes shift that excess fluid so the face feels lighter by the end. Full 25 min version at normal speed is on YouTube, link in bio ❤️.
