M lips... as an injector if you know then you know!

M-shaped lips can be the hardest to treat.
The average lip, there are three tubercles in the upper lip – one in the centre and one on each side – followed by a flatter area towards the oral commissure. In a patient with M-shaped lips, they usually have more volume in their central tubercle and less volume in their lateral tubercles, which means that the upper lip becomes shaped like an M. When they gently close their lips, you will often see that they have two holes, either side, where you can see straight into their teeth because the central tubercle is touching the lower lip.

I always recommend treating these lips slowly and patiently to patients. I can take multiple sessions of small amounts of filler to achieve desired results.

WHAT IS RHA 2 LIP FILLER?
RHA, an acronym for “resilient hyaluronic acid,” is a dermal filler that is designed to impart natural, dynamic flexibility to your lips. Unlike other hyaluronic acid lip fillers, RHA stands out for its ability to be compressed, stretched, or bent without losing its integrity or plumping capacity. This unique feature makes it different from other lip fillers which cannot be compressed, stretched, or bent, and tend to look more stiff when a patient moves their mouth.

RHA’S FLEXIBILITY
The mobility of RHA compared to the stiffness of other lip fillers lies in RHA’s long hyaluronic acid chains, coupled with less crosslinking between these chains. In simpler terms, while other lip fillers undergo degradation of long hyaluronic acid chains during manufacturing, RHA retains its structural integrity. This means the manufacturer has less need to add excessive crosslinking to maintain volume – a crucial factor in achieving a more flexible and natural look. The more cross-linked a filler is the more rigid it becomes.

The lip requires a unique dermal filler, one that is strong but also flexible. The lips move constantly throughout the day, with talking and eating, and we need something that will not breakdown easily. Most fillers that are strong like this are not very flexible (think weightlifter).

On the other hand, fillers that are very flexible and bend and move nicely with skin are not terribly strong (think baby/toddler). The ideal lip filler is both strong and flexible (think gymnast).
