BODYOLOGY | the science of wellbeing Hi! I am Joanna, a Massage therapist and Pilates Instructor. Suppose you are participating in one of my Pilates sessions.

I have been in practice since 2009, travelling the continent using and developing my skills. As my business name says, the philosophy of my practice lies in the “Science of Wellbeing.” Movement is essential in everything we do. When movement is compromised, it creates a cascade of negative effects felt throughout the body, both physically and psychologically. Massage therapy and Pilates are tools

Growth and discomfort are basically synonymous. It’s the relationship we build with them that makes the difference.

Most of us do our best to avoid discomfort…it’s not a sensation we like to live in. But if we only move within our comfort zone, we stunt our own growth.

Comfort feels like safety. It’s actually just a plateau with good lighting. 😆

To grow, we need to live in the uncertainty. The awkwardness. The discomfort. In these moments of practice, we’re asking more of our minds and bodies — and the result is we grow, we achieve, we get closer to who we are, knowing we can tackle hard things. 💪

I’m not asking you to live in pain or awkwardness. I’m simply asking — are you living in comfort?

It’s 20 years since I graduated from the University of Toronto! 2-0!!!!

Looking at this girl, if I could chat with her even back then, the biggest thing I would want to say to her is: Believe in yourself.

Stop comparing yourself to everyone around you. Stop spending your energy thinking about how well everyone else appears to be doing. Be inspired by them, learn from them. You do you and allow your individuality to shine.

Life put this girl on a trail map with unexpected detours, turns, elevations, and declines. She has learned a lot of lessons through the course of that map. But the biggest one was

Believe in yourself.
