I used to be so ashamed of being a people pleaser. Like it was something I needed to fix or apologize for.

But the more I’ve grown, the more I’ve realized I’m surrounding myself with people I can actually learn from. The ones who challenge how I think, who show me a different way to move through the world.

Leslie is one of those people for me. He made me think differently about things I thought I already had figured out. And that’s the thing about the people you keep close, they end up becoming your biggest teachers and your biggest inspirations, even when you don’t realize it’s happening in the moment.

So if you feel ashamed of being a people please like I was. I hope this made you think differently just like Leslie did.

I purposely drive through this cemetery every day to and from work. It reminds me how fragile life really can be.

For those of you who have time to read this caption (if I’m being truly honest with myself), I think after my uncle passed, in a very unexpected way, it woke me up. It reminded me of my friends passing in my twenties, and reminded me that life can just disappear in an instant. It made me forgive and let go of many things. And it made me realize I need to live, because I only have one life to live.

I used to be so adventurous in my teens. I lived like death was so far away. Looking back at the things I’ve done, today’s me would’ve second guessed it and immediately said no. I worked a lot in my twenties, and it was around this time that more friends passed on than I would’ve liked. In a way, it made me become more sheltered. Afraid. Death is closer than it seems, and it really reminded me that life is incredibly fragile, we don’t know if we only have until tomorrow.

In the beginning of my thirties, in some ways I’m scared of getting hurt, or I’m much more careful with what I do. I became more focused on career and building my life, and I forgot how to live. Maybe it’s because I’ve already built a life, I have more to lose.
