With more than 10 years in massage therapy, Andrea brings experience, curiosity and a love of traditional massage techniques to the Westwinds team.
Her favourite technique is petrissage, an all-encompassing technique that allows her to work with the muscles in a thorough, flowing way.
Andrea particularly enjoys treating the neck and shoulders, where so many of us carry the physical effects of stress, work and everyday life.
One of the things that makes Andrea unique is her experience studying Thai yoga massage in Thailand. That experience gave her a deeper understanding and appreciation of traditional Thai massage and its cultural roots.
πββοΈ A great fit for: chronic pain, sports injuries, neck and shoulder tension and clients interested in a therapist with a broad range of experience.
And her fun fact? Andrea's family once had a cat and a dog who lived together peacefully and never fought. Apparently, even the pets knew how to maintain good boundaries! π±πΆ

Acupuncture for headaches does more than temporarily stop the pain. Research supports the use of acupuncture for reducing the frequency and intensity of headaches.
Acupuncture may help by:
β’ Relaxing tight muscles
β’ Calming the nervous system
β’ Improving circulation
Many patients notice cumulative improvements over several treatments.

Massage does much more than just help you relax.
Research suggests massage therapy may help:
β Reduce muscle tension
β Improve circulation
β Increase neck mobility
β Decrease stress hormones
β Improve sleep
When muscles relax, headache frequency and intensity often decrease.

Stress doesn't just affect your mindβit affects your muscles.
Over time, this tension becomes persistent and may contribute to chronic headaches.
β’ Neck
β’ Shoulders
β’ Jaw
β’ Upper back
Over time, this tension becomes persistent and may create trigger points (seen as "X" on the images). These active trigger points all have unique referral patterns that often occur in the head. This can contribute to headaches.
Regular massage and acupuncture help interrupt this cycle before it becomes chronic.

Do you have:
β Jaw clicking?
β Teeth grinding?
β Facial pain?
β Morning headaches?
Your TMJ may be contributing.
The muscles used for chewing connect directly with muscles in your neck and head.
Treating jaw tension can dramatically reduce headache frequency in many people.

Many headaches actually begin with muscle tension in the neck and shoulders.
Tight muscles can:
β’ Restrict movement
β’ Irritate nerves
β’ Create trigger points
β’ Refer pain into the head
Massage therapy can reduce muscle tension while acupuncture may help calm irritated nerves and decrease pain.

Not every severe headache is a migraine.
Tension Headache
β Tight band around the head
β Neck stiffness
β Muscle tightness
β Usually mild to moderate
Migraine
β Throbbing pain
β Often one side
β Nausea
β Light and sound sensitivity
Different headaches require different treatment strategies. Understanding which type you experience is the first step toward effective relief.

Many people believe headaches are simply something they have to live with.
They're not! Recurring headaches often have underlying causes including:
β’ Neck muscle tension
β’ TMJ dysfunction
β’ Stress
β’ Poor posture
β’ Muscle trigger points
At Westwinds Massage & Wellness, we work to identify the sourceβnot simply mask the symptoms. If headaches are affecting your work, family time, or sleep, it may be time to investigate the cause.
