What’s one piece of skincare advice you wish someone had told you 10 years ago?

Mine?

That beautiful skin isn’t about buying the most expensive products or chasing every new treatment.

It’s about understanding your skin first.

Over the years at Freya MediSpa & Wellness in Calgary, I’ve met women in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond who were told they needed lasers, facials, chemical peels or expensive skincare—before anyone took the time to ask why their skin was behaving the way it was.

Sometimes the answer is sun damage.

Sometimes it’s hormones.

Sometimes it’s rosacea, acne, melasma, a weakened skin barrier—or simply the wrong routine.

The right treatment starts with the right questions.

✨ So I’m genuinely curious…

What’s one piece of skincare advice you wish someone had been told years ago?

I’d love to read your answers. They might help another woman scrolling today.

Part 2 of my skincare routine is finally here.

One thing I always tell my clients is this:
Just because a product works beautifully for me doesn’t automatically mean it’s the right product for you.

I can recommend hyaluronic acid all day long because Calgary’s climate is incredibly dry, but your skin concerns, skin barrier, oil production, medications, hormones, and lifestyle all play a role in choosing the right routine.

That’s why I never believe in buying skincare because it went viral or because someone on TikTok said it changed their life.

Healthy skin starts with understanding your skin.
Sometimes all it takes is a consultation to save yourself months (or years) of buying products that were never meant for your skin in the first place.

If you’re struggling with acne, dry skin, pigmentation, sensitivity, rosacea, or simply don’t know where to start, I’d much rather help you build a routine that actually makes sense than have you waste money guessing.

Because great skin isn’t about having more products.
It’s about having the right ones.

Looking at this photo, I can’t help but chuckle.

For someone who would eventually become so opinionated, I was surprisingly portable. 😂

Growing up, my dad lived and worked in Saudi Arabia for much of my childhood.

I remember one time he brought me back a doll. Blonde hair. Blue eyes. The whole thing.

And I refused to take it out of the box.

To me, it wasn’t a toy. It sat on my shelf for years like some priceless treasure.

As a child, I thought I was protecting a doll.

As an adult, I realized I was protecting something else.

It was a piece of my dad when he couldn’t be there.

Years later, after my divorce, I told my dad I was going to get a minimum wage job.

His response?

“Absolutely not.”

He told me I was stronger than I thought and more resilient than I realized.

Looking back, I appreciate the confidence he had in me.

Although, in fairness, he neglected to mention that starting a business would mean there would be months where minimum wage sounded pretty luxurious. 😂

The older I get, the more I understand that love isn’t always spoken.

Sometimes it looks like encouragement when you don’t believe in yourself.

Sometimes it looks like sacrifice.

Sometimes it looks like showing up from thousands of miles away.

Today, I’m grateful for my dad and for all the fathers and father figures who help shape our lives in ways we don’t fully understand until we’re older.

🤎 Happy Father’s Day.

What’s something you understand about your dad now that you didn’t understand when you were younger?

As a medical esthetician, people often assume my skincare routine is always perfect.

The truth? Life gets busy.

Between work, family, appointments, and everything else on our never-ending to-do lists, sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves too.

One skincare step I find many people skip is using a mask.

A good mask can give your skin an extra boost of hydration and nourishment without requiring a trip to the spa. Apply it, let it work its magic, and carry on with your day.

After removing my mask, I followed up with a hydrating toner, hyaluronic acid serum, oil-free moisturizer, and a few drops of blemish oil to lock everything in.

Living in Calgary, hydration is one of the most important parts of any skincare routine. Our dry climate can leave skin feeling tight, dull, and dehydrated if we’re not careful.

Healthy skin isn’t about having a complicated routine.

It’s about consistency.

What skincare step do you find yourself skipping the most?

Tell me in the comments.

Watch Part 2 to see the exact skincare products I use on my own skin for a healthy, hydrated glow.

Father’s Day is just around the corner, and while dads, husbands, brothers, grandfathers, uncles, and friends spend so much time taking care of everyone else, they rarely take time for themselves.

A facial isn’t just about skincare—it’s about relaxation, stress relief, and feeling refreshed. Whether he’s dealing with dry skin, razor irritation, clogged pores, or simply needs an hour to unwind, a customized facial is a gift he’ll actually enjoy.

This year, skip the usual tie, mug, or socks and give him something unexpected: a little self-care.
