Two years ago Tluuwee Kwiiyaas, carved by Christian White and apprentices, was launched. Little did we know then that the canoe and our daughter would be forever connected when Janine Gibbons illustrated them together on the cover of Premier Wab Kinew's book, We Are Who We Are.

A photo of them now, and a few from our time spent August 24, 2024 celebrating Tluuwee Kwiiyaas.

When you purchase a copy of the book through our website all proceeds go the little girl's future education. ❤️🖤

What a great event Ancient Arts Fibre Crafts is organizing! All funds raised go to Noelle continuing with her schooling. And if you're on Haida Gwaii drop us a line and we'll connect you with a local that has yarn from Ancient Arts available there 😎

Sometimes life can hand us lemons, but we can turn those lemons into very tasty lemonade!

Our fantastic and amazing customer service person Noelle was denied government funding for her upcoming semesters at school. Noelle has always worked in professions where she does her best to help people (if you’ve met her did you know she was a paramedic for ten years?) and deserves a chance to continue her education in library sciences. She’s worked so hard in this program so far, so to help her out we’ve decided to put together an amazing evening of entertainment and yarny goodness with all proceeds going to her! This night is not an evening to be missed, with treats, limited edition yarn, and so much more.

Our founder Caroline Sommerfeld will be presenting a fascinating lecture about the history of the craft of yarn production and how it has shaped the modern western world. During this presentation we will go back to the beginning and look at the design and use of spindles, spinning wheels, weaving technology, and knitting, examining along the way how these crafts reflect culture, materials and needs, and how the evolution of these critical technologies has shaped much of western art, literature, and how we think about ourselves today!

Exclusive limited edition oh so decadent yarn bases and a custom colourway will also be available for purchase. All the proceeds from the limited edition yarns and half of the proceeds from the custom colourway will go to Noelle and her schooling.

When: Sept 10 at 7:00pm
Where: The Ancient Arts Studio 607 Manitou Rd SE Calgary, AB
Tickets are available on our website under classes!
