IPL laser skin rejuvenation uses pulses of broad-spectrum light to stimulate your skin’s natural repair process. The light targets pigment and tiny blood vessels, heating collagen fibres and activating fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin—resulting in smoother, firmer, more even-toned skin. The things we do to get your attention 😅

But now for the education piece.

1. Fall is often the best time to start—and prep matters.
Cooler weather doesn’t improve the laser; fall simply makes it easier to avoid tanning and complete a laser series safely and effectively. Avoid tanning and self- tanner, wear SPF 30+, stop waxing or tweezing and shave as directed.

2. The science of it all.
DiolazeXL uses an 810 nm diode laser. Melanin in the hair absorbs the energy and converts it into heat, damaging the follicle and reducing regrowth. Contact cooling helps protect the skin and improve comfort. Because hairs enter active growth at different times, several sessions are needed.

3. Not all technology is the same.
Wavelength, power, cooling, maintenance and the provider’s settings all affect safety and results. Ask for the exact device and whether it is licensed by Health Canada.

4. B.C. does not issue a specific government certification for laser hair-removal technicians.
That doesn’t make training optional. Ask about laser-safety training, device-specific education, hands-on experience and safety protocols. No government credential does not mean no standards.

5. If the price seems too good to be true, ask why. Laser hair removal at Clinic 5 Laser will not be the cheapest you can find, and there’s a reason for that. Always ask your provider who will perform your treatment, what device they use and how they choose your settings. Do not choose your laser hair removal provider based on the deal alone.

Everyone and their mother is booking IPL (intense pulse laser) sessions this fall, but no one is talking about THIS.

After your IPl session the brown, pigmentation spots can get darker before they get better. We refer to this as “peppering”” or something thar looks like coffee grounds on the skin. It’s not a big deal! (and can be covered with makeup) but we’d rather you know what to expect in advance.

When we, as laser technicians, see “peppering” post session, we get giddy! It’s proof that your unwanted pigment is leaving the building. This also goes for redness and vascular lesions. They can look worse before they look better. That’s part of the process.  

Here’s what you should know:

If you don’t get peppering, it does not mean the treatment didn’t work! Not everyone’s sun damage is the same. Your skin will appear brighter and more even after the 4 week mark! Peppering is alwats more likely on your first IPL session of your series.

IF YOU WANT IPL, READ THIS

IPL is not just “a facial” it’s an advanced laser treatment that REQUIRES proper preparation. And you’re going to want to start the preparation now because our biggest IPL sale of the year starts October 1.

— STOP using any retinol, glycolics, peels or any skin thinning ingredients at least 5-7 days before your treatment
— Avoid all sun exposure for AT LEAST two weeks before your treatment
— Skin cannot be freshly tanned for your session (this includes spray tans, self tans, etc.)
— Establish your at-home skin care routine to SUPPORT your results (re: 80-20 rule)
— Stick to your individual treatment plan

Simply put, if you don’t follow the preparation, then we will need to reschedule once you’ve had time to do so. We don’t say this to discourage—we do want you to experience the transformative results of IPL! It’s because we care so much about your skin and safety that we may have to say “see you later.”
