Retinoids are derivatives of Vitamin A and are considered the good standard in skincare for acne, wrinkles, collagen production, brightening, and reversing the visible signs of aging and sun damage.
Retinoids convert in the skin to retinoic acid to effect change in the skin.
That conversion looks like this:
Retinyl -> Retinol -> Retinaldehyde -> Retinoic Acid
The more conversions needed to get to retinoic acid generally indicates that it will be less irritating and well tolerated for all skin types.
