When we support the lymphatic system consistently, the body can look…and more importantly, feel…very different.

Your lymphatic system plays an important role in moving excess fluid from the tissues and returning it to circulation. When fluid accumulates, you may notice that heavy, puffy, swollen or “blah” feeling that can change how your body looks from one day to the next.

And this is why I’m such a believer in ongoing lymphatic support instead of treating it as a one and done service.

✨ LET’S CLEAR SOMETHING UP: Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage is NOT Body Contouring.✨

I’ve realized there’s a little confusion out there about
Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage and Body Contouring and because I offer services that can incorporate elements of mulitple modalities, I thought this was the perfect opportunity for a little education - with love 🤍

They can complement one another beautifully, but they are **not the same treatment.**

✨ MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE (MLD)

Traditional Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a specialized, gentle technique designed to encourage the movement of lymphatic fluid through the lymphatic system.

It is commonly used to support lymphatic flow, manage swelling and fluid accumulation, and may be incorporated into therapeutic or post-operative care when appropriate.

An RMT trained in MLD is approaching the treatment primarily from a therapeutic lymphatic perspective. - Northern Grace does not offer MLD at this time.

✨BRAZILIAN LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE (BLD)

Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage also works with and supports the lymphatic system, but uses a more dynamic, rhythmic approach than traditional MLD. This is what I (RaeDawn) am trained in alongside additional lymphatic education that supports the BLD foundation.

And while BLD has become VERY popular for those beautiful, immediately de-bloated before-and-after photos, it isn't just about how you look....

By encouraging lymphatic fluid movement, BLD helps:

✨ Reduce temporary fluid retention and puffiness
✨ Support healthy lymphatic circulation
✨ Reduce feelings of heaviness and congestion associated with fluid buildup
✨ Support the body's natural fluid-balancing processes
✨ Promote relaxation and a feeling of overall lightness
✨ Support recovery and swelling management when appropriate for the individual
✨ Create a temporarily more defined, de-bloated appearance

Many of my clients actually come for how they FEEL after BLD just as much as how they look.

But here's the really important distinction:

👉 BRAZILIAN LYMPHATIC DRAINGE IS NOT BODY CONTOURING.

BLD can absolutely change the body's appearance. Moving retained fluid and reducing puffiness can make the waist appear smaller, the abdomen flatter and the body's natural shape more defined.

But that does **not** mean fat has been reduced.

That visible change is primarily related to fluid movement and the detoxifying process of lymphatic flushing.

✨ BODY CONTOURING

Non-invasive body contouring is a completely different category of treatment.

Depending on the technology and treatment plan, body contouring may use modalities such as:

✨ Radiofrequency
✨ Cavitation
✨ Low-Level Laser/Lipolaser
✨ Vacuum Therapy
✨ Wood Therapy
✨ G5/Mechanical Massage
✨ Other non-invasive technologies

The goal can include circumference reduction, improving the appearance of cellulite, skin tightening, body shaping and enhancing overall contour.

And this distinction is REALLY important:

Moving lymphatic fluid can make the body LOOK more contoured BUT that does not automatically make the treatment “body contouring."

So where does Northern Grace fit into all of this?

Over years of performing body contouring and Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage, I began developing my own treatment method that intentionally brings the two worlds together.

Rather than treating body contouring and lymphatic drainage as completely separate services, I incorporate Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage principles into my body contouring protocols when appropriate.

Why?

Because when I'm working on shaping the body, I don't want to ignore the system responsible for moving fluid and supporting natural waste removal.

✨ SIX YEARS. ✨

Apparently we quietly passed our 6-year anniversary at the beginning of August… and I was so busy working, spending time with my clients, and squeezing every bit of summer I could out of life with my family that I completely missed it. 😂🤍

And honestly, there’s something kind of perfect about that.

Six years of learning. Growing. Changing. Taking chances. Adding new services. Reinventing myself more than once. Celebrating incredible results and walking alongside so many amazing women through different seasons of their lives.

When I started this business, I knew I wanted to help people feel better in their bodies…but I don’t think I realized how much they would change my life too 🥹

There is something incredibly rewarding about watching someone see a change they’ve been hoping for… watching their confidence come back… helping them through healing, recovery, body changes, or simply giving them an hour where they get to slow down and be taken care of.

Those transformations never get old. 🥹

This before & after is from a scar rehabilitation session following ankle surgery, combining manual lymphatic drainage and scar mobilization techniques.
