So what is CBD? How can it help me?

CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is one of the many compounds found in the cannabis plant. Cannabidiol is, however, exceptional. The compound belongs to a group called cannabinoids. Plant cannabinoids (phytocannabinoids) have a special ability to interact with specific receptors in our bodies.

Our bodies have a system that is named after the cannabis plant called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

The ECS helps with a number of our bodies' biological conditions. Generally, it is responsible for optimising these processes by impacting the signalling of our central nervous system. Plant Cannabinoids can be used to supplement the function of Endocannabinoids. Both being Cannabinoids, they interact with receptors to initiate the signalling process.

But Cannabis gets you high, right? That is true. However, CBD is one of the compounds that is non-psychoactive. You see, a different Cannabinoid known as Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is what makes you high. CBD extracted from the h**p variety of cannabis plants has THC levels of less than 0.3%. These have been scientifically proven not to cause a high.
