Oh hey, it’s been a while 👋

I thought my first post back should be about pregnancy/postpartum hair changes. On top of the many ✨️wooooonderful✨️ things hormones do — like rewiring your brain and making you feel like there’s an imposter inside your own head — they also affect your skin, hair, and nails throughout your entire life.

Any time there’s a hormonal shift, you might notice a change. That could mean a texture change, loss of density, loss of elasticity — hormones play a huge role.

During pregnancy, you might notice your hair colour looks different. This is because your body produces more progesterone and estrogen, which increases melanin and keeps your hair in the anagen (growing) phase longer. This can make your hair appear darker and thicker. You might also notice you tan easier, and your moles and freckles look darker than usual.
Don’t get used to it though… because once you’re postpartum, ✨️everything✨️ changes.

After delivery, your estrogen levels drop rapidly — most people notice changes around 2–4 months. It’s important to remember: you are not balding. You are shedding what you retained.

All the hair that stayed in the anagen (growing) phase during pregnancy now enters the exogen (shedding) phase — basically all at once (thanks, hormones 🙃). You might also notice changes in texture — curl pattern shifts, brittle or dry hair, a receding hairline, or thinning around the temples. The good news? In most cases, regrowth begins within several months.

Postpartum hair loss can feel scary, especially when you’re already exhausted and adjusting to newborn life. But biologically, it’s a reset — not damage. Your body is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do… even if it doesn’t feel like your body right now.

You may have lost some hair temporarily, but you’ve gained so much more 🫶 I see you. If you’re ready for a refresh or want to talk through what your hair is doing, text me at 416-894-8583. I can’t wait to catch up — and introduce you to my new hairs… I mean babies 🤍

I've been keeping TWO little secrets, arriving Summer 2024.

As I prepare for my last week in the salon; I want to thank all of my clients, who feel more like friends. Your outpouring of love and support mean everything to me as I transition from behind the chair to motherhood. The littles and I are deeply grateful for your kindness.
