Birds Year Challenge — 12
Young Wagtail — Becoming

For the final bird of this challenge, I wanted something that felt personal — something true to where I am now.

A young bird lives in that strange space between softness and independence. It is still learning how to balance, how to trust its own body, and how to stand on its own feet.

Lately, approaching thirty, I feel something similar in myself. Not the certainty of having everything figured out, but a new kind of steadiness — the ability to stand anyway.

That is why I placed this young wagtail on a lotus: a symbol of beauty and growth rising from imperfect conditions.

This piece is about becoming.
Not arrival, but emergence.
Not certainty, but learning to trust your own vision, your own legs, your own path.

The last bird feels like it is about me.

And maybe becoming is its own kind of home.

A piece that was never meant to sit on the body — but to move with it.

Two birds, soft blossoms, and a composition built around the natural lines of the thigh — created over two days in a row.

Delicate from afar, detailed up close.
Black & grey realism.
